Here comes the flames.
2002-04-04 02:56:38 PM
More clicks = more chicks = more boobies.
2002-04-04 02:57:52 PM
Is it really that tough to hit a few banners, and then close them, to help Fark out?
2002-04-04 02:58:04 PM
Want new "Top Boobies" old list. been there too long. Me want more.
2002-04-04 02:58:10 PM
I'm not clicking anything until someone tells me what "grassy-ass" means.
2002-04-04 02:58:31 PM
i thought that was mexican...not spanish... hmmmmmmmmmm
2002-04-04 02:58:37 PM

Those things that my firewall blocks?

Sorry, there is enough advertising in the world. Clicking on it would say it worked and make way for more ads.
2002-04-04 02:58:50 PM
I can do that.
2002-04-04 02:58:59 PM

2002-04-04 03:00:35 PM
Yeah - everyone please artificially inflate the number of clicks on the banners! Out of pity!

Then the advertisers will be happy. Not because people are buying their crap, but because their ads have been clicked a bunch.

real dumb.
2002-04-04 03:00:37 PM

...if it'll keep Farkistan a free country, why not.
2002-04-04 03:00:49 PM
most are websensed here at work. So it really does not good for me to click on them as the IT guys go oh, someone's trying to get to a site we consider anti-work... P.S. websense sucks....
2002-04-04 03:00:51 PM

Master of Science in Computer Information Systems

I can get my master's while surfing the web?? I just might do that...
2002-04-04 03:02:01 PM
Ok, I went ahead and clicked on some ads. Now what? Should I buy something?
2002-04-04 03:02:33 PM
Why would these guys give fark money for a lousy click? How does that earn money? It is one of the things I just don't get. So I click on the link a few times and then leave, after closing the 6 pop-ups, how do these sites make money? Anyone?
2002-04-04 03:02:33 PM
Frankee- I assume it is connected to the phrase "wipe hands on pants"...

Just a hunch
2002-04-04 03:06:51 PM
... You know, if we'd all chip in $5 a month to the beer fund, we wouldn't really even need the ads (I think?). Sign up for TotalFark NOW, everyone. Drew, I click the ads, but we all know that they don't get you very much for very long if once we open the advertiser site, we close the thing without signing up for their spam. I want fark to get profitable too, but I don't think these ads will work long term -- but then, I've never run a net business or a successful site at all, so I don't know wtf I'm talking about. Good luck, and I'll try to keep buying TotalFark to keep this thing afloat. And because it's great...
2002-04-04 03:06:51 PM
Ok, I'll write a command-line Java app that will do the "clicking" for me.

It may take a few years, though . . .
2002-04-04 03:07:56 PM
The economy doesn't make any sense.
2002-04-04 03:07:59 PM
LOL I clicked on the message board and it was farked. Go fark yourself!
2002-04-04 03:09:23 PM
I was in a Nielsen rated household once, and the televisions could tell exactly how long you watched each channel. Once I've clicked on an ad, should I wait a prescribed length of time, allowing for the reading of and consideration of the ad, before I click off? If I'm going to help pay my way around here, I want to do it right.
2002-04-04 03:10:16 PM
"Farkers have clicked on the above link 139 times".... lol... never fails...
I've never understood internet get paid even if the clicks don't actually generate a customer ???

If so, damnit FARKer's, quit biatchin, whining, and crying about and click away....fuk.

2002-04-04 03:11:10 PM
Seriously, sure, I'll click banners. NP.
2002-04-04 03:11:10 PM
I did one better, I subscribed to totalfark. :)
2002-04-04 03:13:17 PM
I'm in full agreement with Fishbowl. Makes no sense to me.

Here's the thing: we finally got a decent advertiser but after running for a week apparently we're waaaaay below everyone else in terms of clickthrough rates. Their company has a policy of dropping sites if the rate gets too low, and we're sitting at something like .2% clicks per 100% views. We need .34% or higher. Which isn't much relatively speaking.

However, I have a problem with this because of the quality of the ads we're getting. "Click here to win a prize" "Smack the monkey's ass" etc etc. Perhaps part of the reason there's no clickthrus is because the ads are horrible. Take T-shirts that suck for example, those guys have had a very successful run and have gotten tons of hits and sales. Just depends on who's selling what.

Anyhow sorry to have to ask for this, it annoys me as much as it annoys you
2002-04-04 03:14:06 PM
Starbucks put an ad on Fark. Who are they trying to reach? Like every person in the free world over the age of two doesn't know what a Starbucks is.......hehehe
2002-04-04 03:14:48 PM

2002-04-04 03:16:49 PM

Well I clicked that one and actually followed it but that was a silly mistake. *clicks some more but never GOES to site*
2002-04-04 03:16:52 PM
All of 'em?

Okay, if you say so, I will comply.
2002-04-04 03:17:38 PM
if there were BOOBIES on every banner ad you would be in with your advertisers....
just a thought
2002-04-04 03:18:56 PM
WEll, since I'm too damn cheap to pay for total FARK, I guess I can help out here.
2002-04-04 03:19:10 PM
The starbucks ad is fake actually, we've got some photoshop submissions running as fake ads.

If we had enough TF subscribers, even 1% of the readership, I'd drop these bulk banner ads like a hot rock.
2002-04-04 03:20:56 PM
Tell us what to click on, Drew, and we'll click on it.
2002-04-04 03:21:21 PM
I'll stand behind you Drew. You're my hero.
2002-04-04 03:21:41 PM
if there were BOOBIES on every banner ad you would be in with your advertisers....
just a thought

Looks like somebody wants porn ads on Fark.
2002-04-04 03:21:41 PM
Drew: Fark is composed of a "special" group of people, I don't think your normal advertising agency is going to understand how to make a good campaign around Fark. Too bad too.
2002-04-04 03:21:57 PM
The problem with TF is that it would be sensory overload and I would NEVER get any work done. then I'd get fired. Then I couldn't afford TF. its a vicious circle i tell you.
2002-04-04 03:22:00 PM
It is like the Chewbacca defense, if it makes no sense you must click on the banner ad..........Money is money I will do what I can...

Drew -- Have you though of somehow using affiliate programs?
2002-04-04 03:22:24 PM
I'd sub to TF, but I don't know what I'm getting for the cash. Can anyone of you TF subscribers out there tell me what the difference is? Is it the same as Fark, but with access to archives or something? Is there a link or something that explains? Will I get a free farkin' toaster?
2002-04-04 03:22:28 PM
How long until my e-mail address forwarding? I'm still waiting for that... :)

In the meantime, buy Totalfark, and Drew won't have to worry about ads quite as much.
2002-04-04 03:22:37 PM
How about adding a thingie to the user profile page that says how many ad's they have clicked. Kinda like the 'Articles posted:' thing. I dunno.
2002-04-04 03:23:02 PM
click on our banner ads?

I'm just going to keep clicking on the above link instead.
2002-04-04 03:23:09 PM
You're early in your new marketing /Fark beer fund growing campaign, Drew. The chaff and the wheat will separate - i.e. companies with crappy ads will go away and the companies who get something for their $$ will stay. Then, all will be right with the world.
2002-04-04 03:23:27 PM
OK. What's a few extra clicks if it makes Drew happy?
2002-04-04 03:23:29 PM
Heh, I clicked on both I could fine. But frankly those per-view banner things are better off. You'll get more money by the huge mass of people not clicking than the few people who bother.
