I will NEVER get tired of that Dynamite Monkey picture. The look on his face is priceless.
2005-03-28 07:21:36 PM
On a poignant note, he died without ever realizing his life's ambition to chew off a human being's face, foot and testicles.

President Bush is dead? What happened, somebody forget about his little pretzel/choking hazard problem or something?

Seriously, though, who's originally responsible for the Dynamite Monkey picture? Or is it a mystery, much like the original kitten/domo-kun picture?

The article claims they were trying to submit the story to the "Guineas Book of Records", however, it appears it happened in Japan...?

Hofmann Wasson "Pray. For. Mojo."

That is exactly what came to my mind when I read the story. Nice one....

It took me a grueling two minutes, but I found that Photoshop thread that I mentioned earlier. The chain part goes on for at least 15 pictures, depending on how much you would consider to be a single chain:

I heard that the chimpanzee from the original Tarzan movies, Chita, is still alive and like 104 years old.

1 - anyone else heard this or actually know?
2 - is a Chimpanzee not a monkey, since 52<104?

I'm most excited about the "Japan Monkey Center"! This is great news!

We're about to have a fark cliche explosion of historic magnatude.
2005-03-28 09:41:13 PM
From maxpower:

In response to the Japan Monkey Center publishing the crushing news of Buenoss untimely passing, please read the following eulogy:

We lost Buenos only days ago, but we have missed her for a long time. We have missed her kindly presence, that reassuring screech/ hoot, and the happy ending we had wished for her. It has been two months since she said her own farewell; yet it is still very sad and hard to let her go. Buenos belongs to the ages now, but we preferred it when she belonged to the Japan Monkey Center.

In a life of good fortune, she valued above all the gracious gift of her mate, young male monkey. During her career, Buenos passed through a thousand crowded places; but there was only one person, she said, who could make her lonely by just leaving the room young male monkey.

That was truly the best PS thread in the history of Fark. Thanks for finding it and making me laugh as hard as the first time I saw it.
2005-03-28 09:55:19 PM
oh, for heaven's sake. "monkey" facts:
humans, chimps, bonobos, orangutans = great apes
gibbons + siamangs = lesser apes
rhesus macaques ("Japan monkeys", from the article), baboons, langurs, etc. = Old World Monkeys
spider monkeys (featured in article), capuchins (organ-grinder monkeys), etc. = New World Monkeys
tarsiers = bridging the gap between Anthropoids and Prosimians
lemurs, aye-ayes, bushbabies

a number of features differentiate apes from monkeys from prosimians, though one key aspect is relative brain size.. apes are very encephalized (humans most of all), and so forth down to prosimians.

not that anyone cares :)

The thread the dynamite monkey came from also had one with an incredibly obese woman popping her levi's button off and it was zooming towards the camera. I was at work and had to go outside I was laughing so hard over that one.

Sweet! Praise from the great one himself. Now I feel all warm and fuzzy.

JerseyTim: I will NEVER get tired of that Dynamite Monkey picture.

And I will NEVER get over how popular that silly picture became. It is quite possibly the most far-reaching thing I will ever do with my life.

Thank you everyone.

In before "LOL BUSH IS TEH CHIMP" jokes.

Ooops too late. The geniuses at Fark have done it again with the oh-so-witty and original "TEH CHIMP!1!1!" jokes.

Heh, I think that's something like how the guy who snapped the Nutsack Squirrel pic feels. I was chatting with Drew at a Fark party in Boston once, and he was talking about how said photographer has taken thousands of snapshots in his life, yet his most famous work will most likely be a pic of a squirrel with amusingly large testicles.

I love how this sort of stuff just happens. ^_^
