2002-03-21 08:45:42 AM
How are they going to pin this one on the West?
2002-03-21 08:48:15 AM
Now, this is funny cuz...desert..star wars..mumble...

Better pic of sand.
In more news still, China apparently has a tall building.

Any bets on how long it takes for Harmonia or Goatman to chime in on how the US and their evil imperialist empire is to blame for this?
2002-03-21 08:57:12 AM
Excellent headline. If this is the wit it takes to get posted, I'm never gonna make it.
2002-03-21 08:58:15 AM
That seems like a stretch for even them fb. I don't know, I personally can find only the Mongolians culpable (they are their hordes of sand, after all.)
2002-03-21 08:58:37 AM

436 and counting.

fb- sorry - you can't take credit for this one though. I'm sitting a strong 2 now. gOD save the queen.

this is why the Brown Panda has been flourishing for the last 40 years.
2002-03-21 09:02:10 AM
Obviously this is punishment from Mao for allowing all of those Christians into the country. Time to crack down!
2002-03-21 09:08:03 AM
I'm not commenting about the US being responsible for this, but I will type that the politics over there are in an absolute mess, and there is more war in the air yet.
2002-03-21 09:08:04 AM

Yeah, I submitted it from another site, I think my headline was probably a little too offensive. Drew doesn't approve too many articles with the words nip or zipperhead in them.
2002-03-21 09:11:59 AM
Go figure. I'd love to hear the headline, though I'm sure some filters would adulterate your take into something about nipples.
2002-03-21 09:28:35 AM
I submitted the CNN story yesterday with the headline, "The US does SO control the weather. Just ask the Chinese." Kudos for the Sarlacc reference.

[/my article didn't get posted rant]

Question for the "Blame The U.S." crowd:

Since the U.S. shouldn't be blowing up "little brown people" in the middle east I wonder if its OK to kill "little yellow people" who have been turned brown by a sand storm?

Yes? No?

"...as fine grains of said swirled around."

Didn't you hear what I sand?
2002-03-21 09:48:15 AM
"I guess you could say that the sand which is there gets in their sandwiches there."

"Well, I suppose you COULD say that..."

10 Fark points for whoever gets the reference..

It seems to me that most links to Yahoo stop working almost immediately after being added to Fark...coincidence?
2002-03-21 09:51:00 AM
What a sh*thole.
2002-03-21 09:53:06 AM
Yeah, I'd have to say a genocidal, homocidal, totalitarian communist regime qualifies as "an absolute mess" among other things.

I wonder if obsolete 1930's style farming methods are responsible for this dust storm. Gwapes of Wwath!

A few weeks ago, the forcast on "My Yahoo!" for Worcester, MA showed up as "Dust" Now, I'll admit that Worcester is not the cleanest city, but I don't think that's what they meant, and I've never seen dusty weather in Worcester, and besides that, it was raining that day.
2002-03-21 10:13:44 AM

Been there - always driving on through - always accelerating the whole time.

That may have been the forecast, but it would have been inaccurate, as you state. I think the 5 year forecast for that place would have to be 'DIRT.'
2002-03-21 10:18:42 AM
Hey, Worcester was voted as an "All American City", whatever that means.
2002-03-21 10:24:54 AM
Love that headline.... *clap clap clap*
2002-03-21 10:28:55 AM
Me Chinese,
Me do joke,
Me go pee-pee in your Sarlacc pit.
Or something like that.
2002-03-21 10:30:23 AM
Ah... Beautiful Worcester. Ever notice how the pike seems to skirt south around Worcester just to avoid it.
2002-03-21 10:36:03 AM
Worcester is the kind of place that needs a river to catch fire or a tire-pile blaze that lasts 15 years. Just begging for some claim to fame other than the 'Ice Cats.'

Crap... I had merged the two images. Damn. My bad.
2002-03-21 10:41:07 AM
When I lived in Worcester (went to school there), I was told "Don't go down Main St. past the outlet mall." I asked why, and they said "Just don't." I've since learned why. Of course, I don't know why you would want to go to Main St, anyway. What is there? Shabooms? Luckily to get to the Centrum you don't have to go on Main St. And the Ice Cats are actually pretty good.
2002-03-21 10:46:34 AM
Rumor have it, that part of town has acres and acres of crack fields mixed in with meth farms. Betcha Beijing can't claim that.
2002-03-21 10:50:44 AM
I lived at 600 Main St. in Worcester for about a year, the first thing that the door man told me at my apartment building was don't walk away from the outlet mall either way. Every night, at least 2-3 times a night I would hear police and firemen, sirens blaring going that direction. And the Centrum licked balls. and Seriously, who charges for outlet mall parking? I dunno who voted them an all american city anyway, themselves?
2002-03-21 11:08:16 AM
That's why I never went to that mall. Yeah, sure, I'll pay to park at the mall that has no useful stores in it anyway. Mediaplay sucks (too expensive), and the only other thing there worth going to is Sports Authority. If you park there for the mall, it's $1 for 3 hours, if you park for the Centrum, it's $10.
2002-03-21 11:10:24 AM
What the hell is a sarlac?
2002-03-21 11:11:31 AM
Best. Headline. Ever.

My co-workers think I'm (more of) a dork for laughing out loud at that one.

Bo Shuda. Te Wana Wanga. Etc....

Worcester, that's pronounced "WHOOOOSTER".

2002-03-21 12:27:22 PM
Sort of close.
Wustah, to the locals.
2002-03-21 12:43:14 PM
"He say you Brade Runner!"

Oops, sorry, that's another 17 years in the future, and in L.A.

So. Just where DOES Sarlaac take a crap. And do you think there's anything left of Bobba Fett's helmet?
2002-03-21 01:03:09 PM
I've always said "Wistah"... think of the way Adam Sandler says it: "Welcome to Wistah, $1.25 please"

I can't understand why nobody can spell or say Worcester correctly, but they can spell and say Worcestershire Sauce correctly. It's the same damn spelling!

By the way, there is no damn H in Worcester! It is NOT War-chest-er! People always do that.
2002-03-21 01:13:42 PM
I lived in China for 3 years, and I still remember the day it rained dirt. It was wierd. But again, sand from te Gobi Desert was to blame.
2002-03-21 01:20:42 PM
China offical supect the cause of the sandstorms are Falun Gong sect members, who are to be immediately rounded up and executed.
2002-03-21 02:18:47 PM
I live in Worcester and it is pronounced exactly as it is spelled:

I mean, Wor-Chester.
