2005-02-21 12:15:02 AM
He feared and loathed himself apparently.
2005-02-21 12:15:06 AM
Far out, man.

"...journalism is a terminally lame job, but it's better than working."

"Christ, Hunter. You only had to put up with 4 more years of Bush!"

For some people, that feels like an eternity. RIP
2005-02-21 12:15:46 AM
Sad indeed. R.I.P., gonzo man.
2005-02-21 12:15:46 AM
How unfortunate. I really did like some of his work.
2005-02-21 12:15:48 AM

In times such as now, the voice of the dedicated madman is missed most.
2005-02-21 12:15:57 AM
"Holy GOD!"

I saw this posted on another board about an hour ago and nearly fell out of my chair.
2005-02-21 12:16:27 AM
No way man! Not a cool ending to the weekend.
2005-02-21 12:16:52 AM
Bummer. Didn't care much for his politics, but he sure could write.
2005-02-21 12:16:58 AM
RIP :(
2005-02-21 12:17:12 AM
Holy crap. This farking sucks. RIP, HST.
2005-02-21 12:17:15 AM
i had a very Hunter-esque week I'm just starting to write about. How farking sick that he has to kill himself at the tail end of it.

shiatty world we live in sometimes.
2005-02-21 12:17:20 AM
Dude. I always figured he'd go out in a hail of gunfire, but I figured there'd be cops and/or a SWAT team on the other side of the firefight.

R.I.P., HST.

Freak Power forever.
2005-02-21 12:17:36 AM
What's more amazing is that HE killed himself, not his liver, not the drugs, not the government and I cannot wait for the toxicology report.

2005-02-21 12:17:46 AM
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

not a surprise it came by his own hand, really.
2005-02-21 12:17:47 AM
I mean seriously, did anyone actually figure this guy's life would end any other way??
2005-02-21 12:17:52 AM
Awww... man.

Heres to you.
2005-02-21 12:17:55 AM
Hunter S. Thompson to write "Fear And Loathing In Heaven." Arthur Miller hands him a beer and Marilyn's room key. Writer trifecta in play.

//submitted better headline, but slower.
2005-02-21 12:18:03 AM
its over, its over, the news flashes will stop, thank the lord.

very sad indeed.

Dude. I always figured he'd go out in a hail of gunfire, but I figured there'd be cops and/or a SWAT team on the other side of the firefight.

Yeah, it's kind of disappointing, isn't it?

Rest in peace, Uncle Duke.
2005-02-21 12:18:52 AM
So long, Hunter. You've finally escaped bat country.
2005-02-21 12:18:55 AM
Anybody else notice the Denver news hasn't even mentioned this story. Why do I think they are not as live as they state they are. Anyway, still sucks that Thompson is dead.
2005-02-21 12:18:58 AM
I was watching "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" just last night. Odd.

He was a maverick, but I can't commend him on his exit strategy.
2005-02-21 12:19:24 AM
Y'know...I'll be honest, I have never read anything that Thompson wrote. Am I missing anything, or is it okay to go through life without reading one of his works?
2005-02-21 12:19:46 AM
Holy shiat. I must be really out of touch, because although I have heard his name, and have heard of "Fear and Loathing," I had no idea this would be big enough news to warrant the hundreds of Fark headlines that have been submitted.

I will have to run to the local Half Price books.
