Go Outlaws! Fark the NHL

2005-02-19 5:08:34 AM
That Gretzky and Lemieux story stunk of make believe. This is good though...

If you don't like hockey, go away.

I swear their just cranking up the hype machine so people in the US will give a damn when the season is finally saved.

2005-02-19 5:11:49 AM
the players will suck it up and pounce on whatever bone the owners decide to toss at them. i'm guessing nhl players aren't too edjumacated in other fields that don't require ice skates. hence, it's either skating or the soup kitchen.

2005-02-19 5:12:02 AM
Ahhh False hope, that cruel mistress. :)

2005-02-19 5:12:12 AM
Who cares? The game is a complete commercial failure and deserves to die.

2005-02-19 5:15:20 AM
...they better not be playing with my head... again... I really want to believe!

2005-02-19 5:15:22 AM
yeah, because you get paid 3 million to, what, flip burgers? develop TPS reports, Koowan?

2005-02-19 5:15:50 AM
they are only getting together because the league requested.

this is about the 10th time they are having us cross our fingers for this 'last hope.'

Suck it up, we might not see hockey again until the middle of next season.

2005-02-19 5:16:12 AM
I'm a die-hard Oilers fan from the dynasty years, but I'll be damned if I pay $100 to go see a game this year. I call for a voluntary fan lockout if they get back together. A bunch of rich farks arguing with richer farks over just how rich they should be, when Joe Six-pack can't even afford to watch 'em play.

Fan boycott!

/go Oilers

Doesn't matter. Many can easily go back to their home countries and play hockey there. Unlike baseball and football, there are other places to play hockey besides the US.

2005-02-19 5:17:29 AM
there was going to be time to play a 28-game season and a standard 16-team postseason.

may as well make that the rule rather than the exception if there are any futre nhl seasons... why have a regular season at all when the odds are better than 50-50 of making the playoffs...

2005-02-19 5:18:37 AM
now this is getting stupid.

the season is cancelled, its not cancelled, the unions arent talking, they are talking, they're in a circle jerk, the season is on, the season is off........

2005-02-19 5:18:53 AM
Oh, give it up already. After all these shenanigans, they just have to finally accept that NASCAR has become America's 4th major sport (though it may be doing even better than the NBA, too)

point well taken. i forgot about the european leagues.

Nascar? Everyone knows Soccer is America's 4th major sport.
/hates soccer... and you.

2005-02-19 5:26:01 AM
go back to their home countries and play hockey. hopefully and stay, still would like to see hockey fixed. idea, start the full season 2 weeks from today. if your arena cant make ice you are out.

nascar is cool
world cup soccer is cooler
ncaa basketball the coolest

2005-02-19 5:26:41 AM
Why is nascar the oppisite of Kennedy?

Goes forward and to the left

/take the restrictor plates of the air intakes, then it'll be a sport.

2005-02-19 5:27:33 AM
Can I get a whooooooooo cares pic, please? Someone? Anyone?

I'll admit that I've enjoyed a hockey game or two at the local arena and in Boston, Montreal, and Chicago....but damned if I'm going to keep paying more and more. It's farking expensive, relatively speaking, to go to a game and it will only continue to get more and more expensive.

Having said this, I am the pastry and rounds chef at a restaurant that is within very short walking distance from an NHL team arena. We very definitely missed the hockey games and the crowds that would come in before and sometimes after games. In addition to the fans, I miss having the opposing teams come in for dinner in the private dining room. Damn, those guys can really eat.......I'm a big guy at 6'4" +/- and 250#, but these guys eat entrees as appetizers.

So, I really only miss hockey for the business that we've lost this season. I can only hope that people will still want to go in droves next year.

2005-02-19 5:27:47 AM
so the NHL(Bettman) and NHLPA(Goodenow) are denying the report, what will happen if a group of players and owners are negotiating on their own, get a deal done, is it legit? WTF is going on here? They are just farking with me.

2005-02-19 5:41:55 AM
*yawn*

2005-02-19 5:46:48 AM
I will come back.

I don't watch the regular season, it is too long and tedious. Too many mean nothing games. However, the NHL playoffs are still one of the greatest things in sports. With a shorter schedule, some roster shrinking and minor rule tweaking (to get the game back to its pre-1995 and New Jersey Devil cup winning form), it will be great again.

I would still choose trap hockey over baseball, soccer and NASCAR. Maybe NFL. Not NBA though.

2005-02-19 5:57:56 AM
Damn right, RockJaw. Bad hockey is still better then watching the Yankee/Red Sox circle jerk, the "this team is a dynasty, no wait this one is" of the NFL, the left-turning hicks of NASCAR and the "wait, you have 5 people playing? I thought it was just the hot guy" of the NBA. Soccer, being Hockey off ice, does work but honestly, as an American, it's not exactly something I get to see often enough to get me into, yet.

I know my first sign when I go to my first NHL game back:

"BRET HART FOR COMMISH."

He'd know what to do. He'd take any idiots. Slap a sharpshooter on them and make them submit.

2005-02-19 6:09:34 AM
i love hockey and i do want them to come back, but the vindictive side of me really wants to see them come back and have a game that no one attends.

wouldn't happen, but such a boycott would be a great "fakr you" to all the greedy bastards on both sides.

2005-02-19 6:16:44 AM
I still hate carebears.

2005-02-19 6:28:15 AM
Love hockey all ya want, but don't expect reciprocation on part of the NHL.

Any hockey fan that follows this story blindly, in the hopes of "THERE'S HOCKEY!" this year just became the biatch pimpslapped by BOTH the NHL players and owners, acting like the beaten wife who returns to her dickhead husband "because things will get better, I promise!".

2005-02-19 6:30:07 AM
Dammit... knew it was too good to be true... but apparently there is still hope..

I'd like to see that happen in the other major leagues as well but you're right, it'll never happen. If they play it, they will come.

oh my god, nascar is not a sport. And baseball in the last ten years has become laughable. Hockey requires skill and strength, not steroids and good mechanics.

2005-02-19 7:02:36 AM
I find it hard to believe that after a year of negotiations, it took only 2 days for both sides to pull their heads out of their collective asses and come to an agreement.

The only people who really give a rat's ass about this are season ticket holders, but they're earning 5% on their money as it sits, so they're not that concerned.

It sucks that Peppy LePew didn't say what they said he said.

/are people THAT desperate for hockey that they have to start rumors?

Didn't watch last season, did ya?

2005-02-19 7:05:49 AM
If they do play this season whta will they play? A 22 game season. If the fans were smart they would not show up this season.

2005-02-19 7:12:16 AM
If they do play this season whta will they play? A 22 game season.

...And if they do that, it'll make the term "Winning the Stanley Cup" a complete joke.

Yeah, for about 1/5th what the NHL pays, the superstars are only geting $100,000 to play overseas.

Face it, they need the NHL more than it needs them. They could fold up and enforce an agreement and welcome players next year and 90% of the current NHL players would run back. The players have yet to realize that:

NO TV Contract=NO MONEY!

Their union has got to be one of the stupidest of all time and that is saying something.........

This is why we make fun of you hockey fans, you are all too stupid to realize that it is the 5th or even 6th most popular sport. Hell, the AFL gets better ratings than hockey.

Queer Eye for the Straight Girl gets better ratings than hockey

2005-02-19 7:42:23 AM
As I've said before, you southerners can just go ahead and keep spewing your "I don't care about hockey" crap. True hockey fans didn't want you to have teams anyhow. Oh and how many NASCAR tracks are in MN? Ya, we'll keep it that way.

/Contract Florida, Atlanta, Nashville, and San Jose
//Move Pheonex back to Winipeg, Carolina back to Hartford, and Anahiem and Tampa somewhere else in a couple years.
///Cut the playoffs down to 8 teams where all playoffs should be
////Hockey will then be perfect

2005-02-19 7:44:03 AM
Hrm... lookie lookie.

http://www.jayski.com/pages/tvratings2004.htm

Hockey mentioned once, for dropping in ratings.

/pops, and not like a Bagota.

2005-02-19 7:51:02 AM
Ratings are poor nationally but in many regional markets they are strong. Bad moves on and off the ice over the last decade have hurt the league enormously. Hockey has slipped in popularity in the US, that's reality. I still believe the entertainment value of hockey has the potential to be the best of all the major sports. If the lockout fixes some of the problems that currently exist in the league I'll take a lost season.

That stuff steamingpile said above is a steamingpile. Hockey revenue is gate driven not made through TV. The nhl is practically giving it away to get it aired.

2005-02-19 8:03:06 AM
I watched the official spokesman of the Carolina Hurricanes announce on the 11 oclock news that the dispute was over and the Hurricanes were looking forward to playing. Peter Karmanos should suck dead donkey cocks in hell.

Hockey is dying and living more times than Yasser Arafat.

2005-02-19 8:27:12 AM
Of course bringing Hockey to the rednecks with their NASCAR and flipflops was a huge mistake to begin with. Iff'n it don't have an Earnhardt it aint no sport.

2005-02-19 8:56:50 AM
I blame the FOX network, they introduced the 'glowing puck'.
