I work in Princeton NJ.. and the roads are all torn up there too... Anyone else living in an Ivy League town have this problem?
2002-03-14 06:10:15 PM
I went to an Ivy League (Dartmouth) and there weren't any pothole problems there...there were barely any roads....but no potholes!

I'm also originally from Boston, the new Central Artery Tunnel Construction is making the roads INSANE!!!
2002-03-14 06:11:27 PM
Newark, New Jersey is an Ivy League town that has bad roads I believe..

Another pain in the ass in Boston is the crazy agressive drivers who wouldn't yield for the Virgin Mary...
Although, I guess woman shouldn't be driving in the first place.

I live 2 blocks from a busy rotary. When I'm driving the big, old, ugly, dented, primer-and-rust-spotted F250 truck, people just stop in the middle of the rotary to let me through - they figure I won't care if they hit me and it'd do more damage to them than to me. I drive around the block to avoid the rotary when I'm in the little Japanese car, though, 'cause nobody will let me in.
2002-03-14 06:57:44 PM
Oh, I get it. They speak all funny and stuff in Boston, right? Heh. That's pretty funny.

I love it when pronouncing: card, car and cod it all comes out sounding the same. ^_^
2002-03-14 07:30:47 PM
Man, I miss rotaries. I looked at it this way: rule #1 when you were in the rotary, you had the right of way.

Obviously not everyone else agreed, so there was: corollary 1a) if you disagree, you get the finger and the horn and perhaps a colorful 'shoutout'. Didn't change a thing, but it made me feel better.

and Kwdidion don't be offended, I'm from MA originally, and I miss the sound of those voices. I listen to WEEI at work on the internet, or Lenny Clarke on "the Job" just feel like home.

finally let me just also say: you are all WICKED RETAHDED and QUEEAH. Go Red Sox. thank you.

Although, I guess woman shouldn't be driving in the first place.

If we yield to the chromosomally-challenged, we get stuck behind them. Then watch in agony as they take FAH-EVAHH to negotiate a simple turn...which takes just long enough to leave us stuck at the red light. Then the fahkin Verizon truck shows up (A-GAIN!!!) and blocks the intersection for an hour, and we end up late for work. So... No.. Go to hell, you're NOT cutting in front of me. Wait 'til I go by, I'll be going too fast for you to catch up, so I won't get in your way. It's like that. Deal.

Go sox...

I bastardized it a bit to help the outsiders.
But you are correct.
M-E-D-F-O-R-D: Meffa.

Damned illiterates out there, we gotta walk em through it...

Lesson 2 (bonus points for non-MA residents): Pronounce "Worcester"

Worcester is pronounced: "wostah" by the by, and you have to pay a dollah twenty five to get into it. But thats another story.

As for boston drivers, True Bostonians are some of the best drivers on this planet, the problem in boston is idiots who dont know what they're doing (usualy from Connecticut and New Hampshire)and cause trouble as they yield, and confuse the mass-holes.

Born and bred in Mass, lived in New Hampshire for a long time, it drives me nuts up there watching people drive... They're so backwards...

I've lived in NY, Missouri, California and Boston. Boston drivers are the best of the lot. We're skilled like NY drivers but not as aggressive. Drivers in SoCal are completely oblivious and not very coordinated. In Missouri a large percentage of the drivers are "differently abled" (retahded).

Here's a Boston quiz:
What's a spucky?
What's a grinder?
What's a frappe?
How do you pronounce "Peabody" and "Quincy"?
How small should you cut the tomatoes to make chowder?
What's a parker?
2002-03-14 09:40:24 PM
Timefactor :

What's a spucky? Dunno.
What's a grinder? Depends on the kind, most people like Italian Grinders.

What's a frappe? Mmmm.. Friendly's frappes are the best.

How do you pronounce "Peabody" and "Quincy"? Peebidy and Kwinsee.

How small should you cut the tomatoes to make chowder? Hey, fahk you jerkoff, there aint no tomatoes in chowda!

What's a parker? Keeps ya from gettin soaked when ya go to the Pats game.
2002-03-14 09:48:28 PM
Maybe it's just been too long, but don't people also say "kwinzee"?

oh yeah, and what's a fribble? and what do jimmys go on?

I am also lost however, on spucky.
2002-03-14 10:07:20 PM
this is bringing a tear (a te-ah) to my eye...

I love you guys (not in a queeah way, not that there's anything wrong with that...)

A fribble is a Friendly's Frappe, and jimmys go your sundae. At least that's what my friends from qwinzee say.

Actually brought up in WMass, I don't have the accent, 'cept when I say "GO SAHX!!!"

And... what the hell IS a Spucky?
2002-03-14 10:11:28 PM
Willy: Dollah twenty five, Bishop.

Bishop: Dollar twenty five, Willy? Isn't that the same price your mother charges for a blowjob, you piece of dogsh--?
2002-03-14 10:14:32 PM
Spucky is more local to Boston than grinder, which you'll see in RI and on the Cape.

I hear Kwinzee mostly.

OK, the chowder one was a trick question.

Ad I saw in the Herald: End of Season Sale, 40% Off Winter Parkers.

Isn't a fribble a thick frappe?

I have Dutch friends who eat jimmies on buttered bread for breakfast. They call jimmies chocolate rice.
2002-03-14 10:28:28 PM
damn, don't remember that issue in the middlesex news, but so it is: spucky.

That parker thing is funny shiat.

I should move back. But thanks to the internet, I can still hear the big show with the big O.
