Might as well raid Zippo and Bic morons.

$40,000 worth? Man, that's like 12 years of income for your average hippie stoner.

Aren't you allowed to sell this stuff? I work in SoHo, NYC, and there are a few blocks around here that would be wiped out if they took all the bongs away. MacDougal between Bleecker and West 3rd has about 20 head shops.
Pennsyltucky is an F'd up state. Don't you have to buy beer from state run stores? Damn Amish.

2002-03-08 12:38:56 PM
MrDNA: Correction, that's TOBACCO PIPES. I get corrected all the time at the local head shop.

2002-03-08 12:39:06 PM
actually, since i can't buy a $60 bong... more money for... tobacco!

2002-03-08 12:39:08 PM
"According to alleged state police reports, police allegedly took alleged products which they believe had alleged potential to be used to smoke alleged marijuana, including alleged pipes and alleged water pipes commonly and allegedly referred to as alleged bongs."

Thats A LOT of paraphenalia! Must be a lot of Tokers around York.

2002-03-08 12:39:45 PM
Wow, looks like the county has too much money on their hands that they want to spend on lawsuits for the next 10 years.

I can't wait to see how they're going to prop this one up. I had an interesting second-hand experience of the PA legal system as it pertained to a minor on trial for an underage drinking charge. I sat in the courtroom and watched as the defendant was offered no legal counsel (her attorney didn't even address the court other than to announce himself as court appointed counsel), and then convicted of underage drink, disorderly conduct, and public drunkeness. The interesting part of this process that I was never aware of is that apparently, (at least in Abbington PA, a suburb of Philly) you can be convicted of these crimes without a breathalyzer, and without any evidence that you were in possesion of alcohol. Based on what I saw in court that day, they might have had a chance to convict on a "Conspiracy to Drink while Underage" if such a thing existed, but I guess in some municipalities, the law is like a hand grenade, just come close and you can really hurt you.

heh heh

"ALL YOUR BONGS ARE BELONG TO US!!!"

haha hey remember that? wasn't that thing funny? wow, that was like so '01

HA! Haha hah heh ahhhh hmmmm.

2002-03-08 12:41:00 PM
but how can they confiscate stickers and patches because they refernce drug use? i seriously question the legality or at least constitutionality of this. and then there are places like Telegraph Rd. in Berkeley where every shop openly sells pipes and bowls (for tobacco use only, of course).

Next I'm expecting them to raid stores that sell corn cob pipes and 2 liter bottles. Out of curiosity tho, wouldn't the stores be able to sue the police as the glass case was labeled for tobacco use only?

"As of Thursday night, no charges had been filed against the business owners, making the entire case a complete waste of time and taxpayers money. After laving the establishment, police executed similar raids on local Home Depot outlets, completely gutting the plumbing department."

Pot leaf patches are illegal.
M-16's are legal.

CrackeurJacque - M16s are legal? Last time I checked M16s were Class III weapons. Most machine guns are.

I'd also like to thank the PA State police for ensuring that, while I still need cover fire to cross the street, I am now able to walk into a tobacco store and not see any colorful pipes or grateful dead stickers.

"According to state police reports, police took products which they believe had potential to be used to smoke marijuana,"

In other news, after catching his degenerate son smoking an illicit substance from a homeade pipe constructed from a cardboard tube, the York, PA sherriff ordered a raid on the local WalMart, confiscating the entire Charmin display.

You have to buy liquor from state-run stores in Pennsylvania. Beer you have to get from a beer distributor, generally by the case. Some bars will let you carry out six packs or 40s. Oh, and the Beer Barn (yeah, that's the name of the store) where I used to live up there closed at like 8 or 9, so you had to plan ahead if you wanted to drink that night. Stupid Pennsylvania. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh on the ends, Arkansas in between.

Chance that these "tobacco smoking accessories" will ever see an ounce of tobacco:

JMF haha i got convicted of underage drinking in Abington lol... Was it judge Brown's courtroom? The suburb asshole cops got nothing better to do then chase kids with beer.

"And by the way, all this money can be rolled up and used to snork coke. So we're gonna... IMPOUND it. Yeah! That's the ticket. Impound it."

Well, I live in PA, and I thought that "bongs" were LEGAL, so long as you sold them as water pipes for herbal smoking mixtures... Right in downtown Philly there are shops (wonderland) which basically mostly sells bongs and pipes... I would like to know the legal ramifications of this "bust" cause it is asinine as hell if you ask me....

Wheeee!!! I'm so proud to live in York. I'm glad that my tax supported state police force is protecting the citizens of York from this terrible menace!

2002-03-08 1:06:32 PM
You'd think Philip-Morris would be up in arms over this. I mean, won't restricting water-pipe sales hurt tobacco sales?

BWAHAHAHAHA!

2002-03-08 1:06:57 PM
Police allege the items seized could be used to smoke marijuana

I suppose they should seize apples and soda cans as well...

Hey Now Farkers! Let's not rip Pennsylvania! We've got, uh,......and, uh.... We've got a killer Hell's Angels / Pagans standoff goin' on! And Peach Paterno!

2002-03-08 1:08:16 PM
BlockedIP: you see in Philly the cops got better things to do, however these overstaffed overfed suburban police departments are so bored that there is no real crime, that they go for anyone they can harass.

There used to be a place near me in MA called the Psychedelic Emporium, that advertised on the radio "Pipes are for Tobacco Use Only". Their slogan was "Ain't Nobody Gonna Shut Us Down". That held true until the police raided the building and found a large amount of pot. What are the chances of that? In a place called the Psychedelic Emporium? No way. When I think of Psychedelic, I really think of tobacco, don't you? Pretty dumb of the owners to name it that, and even dumber to have the stuff in the building.

One of the Custom Blends is about 1/2 hour away from where I live. They had some stuff in there that was priced around $600 (see expensive shiat). The cops arent going to press charges because what they did was unconstitutional but, I dont believe that theyre going to give anything back either. Thats the whole point, if you cant press charges, run the business to the ground. The owners of these shops are going to have to swallow the cost of losing all their merchandise. Hopefully they will be able to stay afloat and stuff it to these pig fu##ers just by being open.

I am really impressed to see how many Farkers live in the Philly area. I think we need a Philly Fark Party.

Stubblyhead "Stupid Pennsylvania. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh on the ends, Arkansas in between."

You can't say that about my beloved York! It's not like everything in the county has a Nascar sticker...um...bad example...it's not like the roads were covered by pickups and SUVs before the yuppies discovered them...nah, another bad example...it's not like a district in the county school system just allowed prayer in...fark it, your analogy is correct sir!

Fascists. Note to self: Never move to Pennsylvania

Slayerswine: Great story! Almost made me catch religion again
