They just arrested some guy who lives just over the NC border for owning SC lottery tickets. That law sucks. If rednecks want to piss away their money, let them.

That was possibly the silliest article I've read in a while. I'm aware of the fact that it was an opinion column, but I thought professional journalist were more pithy than using the word "biiiiiiiig" to get a laugh.

What a stupid law. Everyone should have a chance to pay "the idiot tax."
2002-03-06 08:57:30 AM
Meanwhile, SC is calling us (NC) asking for help with all the families ten thousand leagues beneath the poverty line....

I live in North Carolina, and work in South Carolina, I think that this is a very piss poor excuse of a law. We have tried many times to get a law passes so that North Carolinians could have a lottery.

All the time they are spending fighting this lottery, they should be spending on how to grow our state. Because of their "financial situation," they continue to raise property taxes to the point that industry is leaving the state, and new industry is by-passing us as well.

North Carolina Government needs to wake up and smell what they are shoveling. Because most of us as citizens are tired of it getting thrown into our pockets.

Isn't this a violation of the constitution?? Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If buying lottery tickets is our pursuit of happiness, then how can they block it??

Wait! There are TWO Carolinas? But only one NFL team. Hehe i love these lil' states.

HTR: Life liberty and pursuit of happiness, unless it pisses off somebody's god.

The lottery is bound to happen next year in NC. The state is loosing $1.5 million per day to VA and SC. that is a major hemorrage.

It's illegal even to 'hold' one??
(OK... I guess they mean own one)

Is this a God-fearing, anti-satanic temptation sort of thing?

43%: Welcome to the Bible Belt!

Lottery has got to happen. I agree that this state is bleeding out through its eyes, and something must happen to stop that.

and to pissing of somebody's god!! Does the phrase "Seperation between church and state" ring a bell??

I know the Southern Baptist are going to raise hell on this statement!! Remember the old addage, if the shoe fits, wear it!

Georgia has a law against out of state residents buying Georgia Lottery tickets, but they (duh) dont enforce it...that way they can say they're being respectful of our neighbors in Alabama and Tennessee(states bordering GA with no lotteries) while happily allowing reisdents of those states to help fund HOPE scholarships(first 2 yrs. of college or trade school tuition all paid for by the state) for Georgians...thanks for your $$$$ Bama and TN(and any other out of state folks who wander over...we miss you SC!)

The lottery in SC was a piss poor idea. If you even try to buy something at a convenience store/gas station/grocery store you have to wait in line behind all the smelly ass people buying and redeeming lottery tickets. Thank God for pay at the pump. Next thing you know they'll be raising my farking taxes to support all the idiots who spend their paychecks on the farking lottery.

This is an article about two small states way off on the coast that only serve the purpose of keeping hurricanes from coming too far into the rest of America. Why do we care?
2002-03-06 11:32:16 AM

Separation between church and state? Down here at the beach they just allowed the posting of the Ten Commandments in the schools. How's that for conservative.

Glass Houses.

actually North Carolina accounts for more than you are giving us credit for Clarkins...we are on of the more larger states by population in the nation...but you are from Arkanasas, so I wouldn't expect you to know that....stereotypes suck, and while I dont usually defend the state of North Carolina, quite a bit of jokes have been made about this area. We are not all dim-witted rednecks, just 75% of us. :)....the funnt thing about this whole situation is that they are not nearly as hard on the Virginia lottery, I live within 15 minutes of Virginia and could buy lottery tickets anytime I like.
2002-03-06 11:49:34 AM
Pharoh87.. no joke! with these guys be so conservative, I am surprised that they even got anything going there at all.

And I actually buy lottery tickets out of Georgia since I am on the South Carolina border!!!

are you north or south??
2002-03-06 12:28:59 PM
North, luckily near the beach so we are exposed to a few normal, open minded tourists.
2002-03-06 12:44:35 PM
I live in NC, and while we have no lottery here, there's nothing to stop us from picking up tickets in Virginia or South Carolina...which a LOT of people do. Maybe, one day, our state gov't will wake up. Maybe.
2002-03-06 01:15:57 PM
Pharoh87 and Ascicles Apologies to you for the attacks on your homelands. I'll buy you a lottery ticket the next time I am in Missouri or buy you a game of bingo or a day at the track next time we are all in Oklahoma.
Arkansas has a horse track or two but that's it. Just over the border in Oklahoma there are many indian casinos and bingo halls. Missouri has lottery tickets, power ball and floating casinos in Kansas City and St. Louis. Arkansas also loses money to Mississippi casinos daily.

That still doesn't help the fact that NC's governing body have all but outlawed thongs on the beach. They call it public nudity!! wonder how many of them watch porn??
2002-03-06 01:37:42 PM
oh forgot. they are too busy thumping their bibles!!
2002-03-06 02:04:35 PM
I live in North Carolina and I have a computer.
2002-03-06 03:50:13 PM
the thong thing might be a law, but not enforced....I lived on the beach until about a year ago, and saw many things...believe me I would know :)...and believe it or not, we may be in the bible belt, but a LARGE section of people are just open minded, and not bible thumpers here.

why is it every time I read about my state (a.k.a, the state my parent brought me to under protest), it is bad?
