Begoggle: Vicarious Witness: Karma Chameleon: Maybe don't support musk or Zuckerberg?

In case you hadn't noticed, just about every website has a link to Facebook and Twitter (even FARK). Please share with us how you avoid supporting Musk or Zuckerberg.

it's very easy but we can't say, because Fark actively bans you if you say, even though everyone knows except apparently you.

I quit building websites back in 2010. And you are wrong: not everyone knows

Why give these lifeless, dead inside parasites more..anything?

FarkinNortherner: Jake Havechek: I think they just wanted to show an English city that most people were familiar with instead of London or elsewhere.

I think that's probably it. Sheffield was also a hotbed of CND and was a 'Nuclear Free City', so no shortage of support for an anti-nuclear film from the city council.

Also Barry Hines was from Yorkshire.

/I mean, I've never actually seen Threads, and I didn't know that Hines wrote it before this thread.
//Did A Kestrel for a Knave and the film version, Kes, at school though.

But you only cited Republicans. Funny how that works.
So is it bad that repubicans do it, but okay if Democrats do?

Republicans are taking American's rights away, and trying to end our democracy.

Someone posted about how republicans scrape data.

You sea lioned "surely you can prove that democrats aren't also doing the things that republicans have already been caught doing"

Jake Havechek: gyruss: cat trying to crawl out from under burning debris... Brutal.

What's interesting is they just gave the cat a bunch of catnip, and ran the film in reverse, and it looks like a cat suffocating from the lack of oxygen.

Knowing how animal actors are handled makes most movies a lot better. Especially when you learn to read their body language and see 'wolves' that are actually Huskies going 'I DID GOOD GIVE ME A TREAT HOOMAN' or kittehs totally ignoring the cameras because their person has noms behind them.

On several occasions, I've had Facebook friends post a little screed that says they don't give Facebook permission to use their photos without consent, etc. I'm sure they've copying something one of their other friends posted, and it sounded good to them.

I would reply to their posts with a few paragraphs from Facebook's TOS, and told them they gave up their rights long ago.

Obviously, no one ever read the TOS.

Don't think so.

It's Meta, which means it's a PG-13 version of whatever it's copying.

At least Twitter has Boobies, Butts, and Beyond.

I'm guessing they think it is "their Facebook account".  The TOS have some bad news for them, it is facebook's account on them.  A persons can delete their ability to access that data, but Facebook sure won't be purging the link info it already has.

Eh, do I honestly have any privacy left? I automatically mute/block ads that pop up in my feeds, and if I DO see something interesting I'll go outside the app to the product's actual page. Learned how Etsy screws over the sellers via ad fees (any time you click an Etsy ad it stays with you for 30 days and everyone you shop from, even if you didn't see their product in the actual ad, had an ad fee taken. Really sucks to get .23 from a $15 item because ad fees) so I got in the habit of circumnavigating the ads and blocking the ones that annoy me.

TempeSun: I have questions:
1. Is there a desktop version of Threads?
2. Can you control your feed? Like newest to oldest as opposed to algorithms or 'suggested'?
3. What about NSFW? FB and IG are still PG-13 at best.

1. Not yet. Right now, it's just a phone app.
2. Not yet as it's still in beta. Apparently, only displaying posts from people you follow is on the "to do" list. In the mean time, you can mute the accounts you don't know, although it's kind of pointless right now and you may as well wait.
3. I haven't seen any discussion of NSFW content, so I'm assuming it's the wild west until someone complains.

Would like an answer to these, as well as

4. If all the big boys move to Threads, and Threads is part of the Fediverse, will we be able to able to sit safely inside Mastadon and view all the Threads stuff from a safe distance?  This may be significant advantage over both Twitter and BlueSky.
