Someone call The A Team!
2002-03-04 08:46:53 AM
Vietnam 2.

*Waits for all the conservatives who said this war had already been won*
2002-03-04 08:51:11 AM
No not Vietnam 2.

The Taliban and Al Queda were expected to reform in the mountains.

Why do you think the Americans are on the offensive?

To kill em all at once.
2002-03-04 08:54:28 AM
I hope it's not Vietnam 2....
2002-03-04 08:54:40 AM
Now the terrorist will get the big head cause they actually shot down ONE american chopper.
2002-03-04 08:55:34 AM
Arrrgh!! I was going to e-mail that story, but the page said "You must have cookies enabled." Fark the Chicken Noodle Network!!
2002-03-04 08:56:04 AM
Oh My God! American troops are being kileld? We ahve to get out of there right now. This is unbearable. What is the government thinking, sending our boys in there where they might get killed? I'm suing someone over this.
2002-03-04 08:56:13 AM
Hope my friends in the PPCLI and Lord Straths manage to bag a few terrorists.

2002-03-04 08:57:03 AM
To think all of you George Bush cocksucking cheerleaders thought we were done over there and were busy thinking about Iraq already. Anyone who has any real intelligence about military affairs and is not a politician would easily realize that what we did in Afghanistan almost amounts to nothing at this point. So I see we drop 270 bombs on them yesterday and today they kill more Americans, hmm I wonder if we should use some more groud troops and kick Taliban ass the way the military was meant to do. After some bombing like we did 4 months ago, you send in some troops and shoot everyone that doesn't surrender. farking politicians are to blame for the Sept 11 attack and they are again to blame for this one.
2002-03-04 08:58:44 AM
Hey, I don't know too many who said we had it won. In fact, most of the right wingers around here that have made a lot of noise about going scorched earth. A bit extreme, but I never would've called this "won." Not by a long shot. In fact, the Democrats have been making noise about when it will be over. Forces regrouping in the north; this could take a while.
2002-03-04 08:59:34 AM
Harmonia, who said the war was already won? I think people said we already kicked some a$$, but it's difficult to call a war won when you're still fighting.
Unless someone means 'won' in the sense that the outcome is pretty certain. In which case, I'd have to agree. The coalition forces will wipe out any remaining strongholds, knock a few rival warlords around, then pull out, and let Afghanistan deteriorate into the mass of small factions and petty in fighting they seem to enjoy so much.
2002-03-04 09:00:41 AM
"*Waits for all the conservatives who said this war had already been won*"

Yeah, we know. The US sucks and you were right about everything all along. Yes you told everybody so, and you are now god. Troll, troll, troll.
2002-03-04 09:01:59 AM
Digipimp: what the fark are you talking about?! Bush never said that Afghanistan was totally safe. Even the news media has said that the only relatively secure place in Afghanistan is Kabul. So the politicians are to blame for this, even though it was a terrorist AND NOT A POLITICIAN who shot down the helicopter?

OK, I see your point. We'll fly Tom Daschle over to Afghanistan and shoot him. How's that??
2002-03-04 09:04:10 AM
I have hit a nerve eh?

Funny I have a vivd memory of a thread with

"HA HA HA you Commie treehuggers said this would be another vietnam but we have kicked the towelheads in two weeks" etc etc etc.

Poor Meshman, cant respond so he just throws around the T word.

When did I say the US sucked?
2002-03-04 09:04:16 AM
Meshman: did you get some bad crack this morning or what. Someone doesn't like conservatives and all of a sudden you are implying that they think the US sucks, well I never said the US sucks, but you suck, politicians suck, George Bush and Ashcroft suck, the Taliban sucks, and I've got plenty more in mind of people who suck. The US kicks ass and it's sad to see such idiots running it into the ground.
2002-03-04 09:04:46 AM
HArmonia- when haven't you said the US sucks?
2002-03-04 09:05:31 AM
Wow, an airship actually taken out by the enemy! Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely behind the U.S. military 100% in this, but what's the deal with all of the crashes since this began? There must be some board somewhere investigating the apparent attraction American military aircraft have to the ground.
2002-03-04 09:06:08 AM
Sounds like one hell of a fight going on over there.
You have to wonder why those idiots are bothering though, they have precisely zero chance of winning against the allies, they are all gonna get their lungs imploded or something.

And i predict this thread to hit "lots" on the counter.
2002-03-04 09:07:20 AM
lol, serves the imperialist b*stards right for being there in the first place. hopefully there's many more where that shot came from.
2002-03-04 09:07:20 AM
9/10 hell yeah I'll go for you taking him over there and getting rid of him if we can take a bunch of other politicians with him. You see I don't really see much distinction between Republican or Democrat so I'm cool with getting rid of any of them. I mean before 9/11 they were all kissing taliban terrorist ass anyway, and no one was in a big hurry to get rid of them. The downfall of our country is the worshipping of money.
2002-03-04 09:07:43 AM
I guess they'll make a movie about this one too.

Just don't have a Dave Matthews song.
2002-03-04 09:08:40 AM
BUT one fickin helicopter gets shot down in 6 months and your already screaming "Vietnam2" ??
just like Vanhfan said....."Why do you think the Americans are on the offensive?"

2002-03-04 09:10:15 AM
Still think we need a "Flamebait" tag.
2002-03-04 09:10:20 AM
shiat, it's a war, are we going to get a psa everytime something "warlike" happens? ::cries:: LEST WE FORGET!
2002-03-04 09:10:30 AM
Damn, this biatchfest got off to a running start

Sorry, please carry on
2002-03-04 09:10:30 AM
Vegas, go and read the history of the Vietnam war, every year the US military announced that they had won, just a little mopping up to do.

Sound familiar?
2002-03-04 09:11:00 AM
Did anybody else hear the very quietly covered story about Ashcroft turning down the FBI's request for an extra $58 million in anti-terrorism funds on, get this, September 10th? Interesting, don't you think? The Repubs have been screaming (in DC and on Fark) that Clinton gutted the CIA and the FBI and so it's his fault they terrorists didn't get caught. A little foot-in-mouth disease, I think.
2002-03-04 09:12:23 AM
Harmonia time's change brother.....
now I must commute to work.... so don't think you ran me off

2002-03-04 09:12:55 AM
To quote from Paradise Lost;

Innumerable force of Spirits armed
That durst dislike his reign, and me preferring,
His utmost power with adverse power opposed
In dubious battle on the plains of heav'n,
***And shook his throne***. What though the field be lost?
All is not lost; the unconquerable will,
And study of revenge, immortal hate,
And courage never to submit or yield:
And what is else not be overcome?
2002-03-04 09:13:14 AM
Biggest differences between this war and vietnam is in afganistan the US has the afgan alliance to do all the dirty work. Plus in Nam the US Army was full of low morale inexpierienced draftees.
2002-03-04 09:13:43 AM
Hey, nothing has been "won" yet. Anyone with half a brain knew the fleeing Taliban and Al-Qaida fighters would regroup to fight another day. The US and its allies will ultimately win, but it was never going to be a clean, smooth easy battle. They are going against hardcore guerrilla fighters who know the land, know the caves and are always surprisingly well armed. The US will lose soldiers, for sure, but you don't often go into battle and come out without a scratch.
2002-03-04 09:14:05 AM
The US has never announced they have won the Afghan war.

Plain and simple. If they had won there would be not large combat force in the area, just a small garrison at best.

More like the feel good press looking for stories of victories has called this small war.

The mindset and leadership at this time is quite different than the early 70's.

Should be noted that U.S. troops aren't the only ones there right now fighting these holdouts. Several countries, including Norway(!), are fighting, too.
2002-03-04 09:15:28 AM
Beat that afgani ASS.... Go and Get'em boys!

if the rest of you canot support our troops, get lost!
2002-03-04 09:15:59 AM
Ooops. I meant Cannot...;)

6 Dead.
2002-03-04 09:16:44 AM
It all depends on what the definition of "won" is.
2002-03-04 09:16:54 AM
Why the fsck should I support Yank troops? Hell my country isn't even part of NATO.
2002-03-04 09:17:13 AM
How many other "vietnam 2's" have been predicted?
just to name a few...

Gulf War

Damn terroristhuggers think that Today = 1969
2002-03-04 09:18:58 AM
Phix-it.....Love the term "terroristhugger".
2002-03-04 09:19:36 AM
thermobaric bomb anyone?

(yeah i'm canadian, but that doesn't mean ALL americans should die)^^
2002-03-04 09:20:54 AM
I don't recall any conservatives saying that the US had already 'won.' In fact, it's been the folks across the aisle that have been pushing that idea in order to loudly beat their chests and wonder why the US is 'expanding' the war past Afghanistan.

Dumb ass.
2002-03-04 09:21:02 AM
Vegas, go and read the history of the Vietnam war, every year the US military announced that they had won, just a little mopping up to do.

Sound familiar?

Harmonia, it's not yet time to make these comparisons. We've been in Afghanistan for 4-5 months. It took a lot more time than that before anyone was saying Vietnam was "won". And it continues to boggle my mind that so many people on both sides of the aisle think that this would or should be over or that the war on terror will be short. Do you people listen to anybody? The government has spent months pounding it into our heads that this is going to be a long, costly effort but that the ends will be worth it. I figured they thought we were stupid since they were telling us every second how long this would take, but apparently we're dumb as doornails because a lot of us still don't get it.

The only thing that sounds like Vietnam so far is the style of warfare, minus the jungle of course.
2002-03-04 09:21:19 AM

That list isn't exactly something for us to brag about. Though, our casualties were lower than Vietnam.
2002-03-04 09:21:59 AM
Fine Phix, we will see I suppose.

The Taleban are learning, as the VC did as well.

You have to rememebet that these guys beat the Soviet army, which is no mean feat
2002-03-04 09:22:02 AM
Just announced 2nd helicopter hit and made it back to base with only 1 killed on it. Hit by the ever famous rocket propelled grenade. The allied ground forces are now having to move back positions. Several as many as a dozen injured in first helicopter so far.

Vanhfan Gotta keep making up words for my job at the Dictionary factory.

"I won't rest until Boobies is in the dictionary!"

Bush has succeeded and continues to draw #'s from a proapagandized "war"...when is it going to stop (Vietnam once again?)...Sept. 11 '01 shattered our belief that we were safe from any foreign invasion, now Bush wil not quit till we add it to our daily matra. Success will only be measured by who will be our next target. I am 100% American, patriotic till I die, and would never hesitate to defend OUR country's freedom and values. But what I take exception with is Bush's (I & II's) Roman Empirer mentality. We are not the bastions of every foreign country's hopes and dreams. We should not FORCE our way of life on civilizations/countries that are thousands of years ahead of us in existance. We exude our hopes and dreams on them, we force them to believe what we do, we invade and remove and replace leaders, we try to make them act as we do, and share the same ideals and values as we do. Bush wake up, we should have already had the culprits from 9/11 by now, and we should have already moved on. BBUT INSTEAD WE HAVE AMerican's dying in a war that does not exist. I am sickened by King George's/ or Ceaser's attitude of being the world's policeman, or being the bastion of democracy where it should be introduced as an ideal or concept rather than FORCED upon someone as a demand or fact of life. When will realize that oil and forced ideals are not a necessity, rather than focusing on an economy AT HOME that is on shakey ground, homelessness that is raging, hunger that is swelling into the mid-class, joblessness across the board, literacy problems that are soaring, and a loss of respect and decency in our corporations. We allow politicians in the pockets of big business, allow them to move off shore to avoid paying taxes, allow them to ruin the lives of a dispearing middle class, yet we mourn another loss of American life in a war that is fo rnothing but #'s and oil. Yes, we need to avenge and seek justice for 9/11. Not at the expense of a King's dreams, or Ceaser bloodthirsty attitude.

Latest from reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. military helicopter was downed in eastern Afghanistan Monday and a number of troops killed in the crash as Afghan and Western forces pressed their biggest attack of the war against al Qaeda and Taliban fighters, a U.S. official said.

The official, who asked not to be identified, said the U.S. Central Command was preparing to release details of additional military fatalities beyond the one U.S. soldier killed when the fierce fighting began in snow-covered mountains near Gardez on Friday night.

The Pentagon refused to confirm or deny that a helicopter had crashed and there was no immediate indication of how many troops might have been killed and wounded.

"Initial reports are that the helicopter went down as it moved into the area. There have been increased deaths, casualties," the U.S. official told Reuters, adding that the number of Americans wounded had now risen beyond the 34 in initial fighting.

It's about damn time that we get the opportunity to go kill some of them al-queda f*cks again. They have this and a lot more of it comin to em.Were bound to have some casualties,it's gonna happen, and were gonna have more. But were gonna take a hell of a lot more of them to the grave than they are.
