Get a farkin iPhone or don't. In either case, don't whine about it.

I was on a 15 year streak.

Then I got an M2 Mac. Now I hate the software. It's so bad I had to install a program just to snap a window to the left half and right half of the screen.

But damn if it isn't responsive and with great battery life

I've had Apple computers off and on since the Pismo PowerBook G3. There are always usability issues like that. I currently have a M1 Pro MacBook Pro that I (mostly) like. But simple stuff like keeping it from going to sleep or snapping windows to halves/quadrants of the screen require shelling out money in the app store. Which I think is intentional at this point.

Someone described it to me.

Windows will just do what you want out of the box
Linux will do what you want once you set it up
Apple will do what you want once you pay someone

Most of my family have iPhones. I have Android on a Surface Duo 2. We do not have the problems mentioned in the article. Once again, I feel like I must be doing something wrong because I don't have the same technical problems that others seem to have.

To be fair, I do not like Apple products or Android, even though I have a M1 Mac Mini and an iPhone 8 that I use for development. I loved my Lumia 950XL running Windows 10 Mobile - RIP.

Android is Linux.

So that means if you know what you're doing, it's great, otherwise it's confusing.

I bought my dad an iPhone because I didn't want to teach him how to use his phone. One day, I saw a bunch of iphone charges on my card and apparently he went crazy buying a bunch of stuff and I left my card in his phome wallet. Welp, that was your birthday present, old man.

I try not to be prejudiced towards Apple product users.  However, every time I speak to one they go on and on about how much they like their Apple product that it crosses a line of normal enthusiasm. Then it doesn't help when they look at me like an alien when they find out I don't use an iPhone.

BetterSnapTool? It's the first thing I bought like eight years ago when I got my first modern mac at work. I simply could not believe Microsoft managed to put something so useful in Windows and Apple seemed to think irregularly shaped windows all over the desktop were acceptable.

Presumably they were all already using one or more apps that better suited the purpose and facilitated cross comms, so the good news is that whilst you've discovered that you don't have any friends, potentially they weren't merely arseholes, but really stupid arseholes.

I used an Android phone for years while my wife used an iPhone, and yet somehow our marriage survived. And come to think of it, I was never excluded from group chats among my iPhone using friends.

Weird that the writer experienced this incredible (and very clearly real) discrimination, and it surely has nothing to do with them being insufferable.

That's exactly the type of nonsense I'd expect to hear from an Android user.

If your "friends" make fun of you because of your phone. You need new farking friends. You also should not give a shiat.

"I never thought it was real"

It isn't.  After reading that incredibly whiny rant where you cast yourself immediately as the victim over something completely farking innocuous, it's very obvious that the actual reason you're not included in group planning chats and such is that, y'know, you do shiat like that.  You are what TVTropes would call "the friend nobody likes".

You're annoying the fark out of everyone because of your shiatty personality, but they're not willing to tell you that to your face because then they'd have to, y'know, deal with you blowing it up into a major woe-is-me dramatic monologue for the rest of their farking lives, and it's pretty clear you wouldn't actually learn anything or change your behavior so there'd be no point regardless.

Thus, quietly ghosting you instead.

// Apple deliberately designing their products somewhere between "badly" and "objectively incorrectly" just to artificially create incompatibility and isolate their users in a bubble for more effective gaslighting actually is a real thing and one of the company's shiattier behaviors... but, like, come the fark on.  You're talking about people you speak with in person on a regular basis; the problem is clearly you, not whatever polite excuse they're using to brush you off.

I have never had an iPhone or any other apple product, while I have managed to have many friends and even family members in my own house that love Apple products.

As techno foolish as I am, I still manage to connect and communicate regularly with all of them.

It's a mystery why this "writer" is regularly left out of conversations.  Couldn't have anything to do with a personality issue, could it?  Must be tech.

Given the widespread coverage(finally) of police violence and targeted enforcement towards blacks and other minority groups, a tweaked version of The Horror at Red Hook could hit hard without having to be preachy.

I see Google is getting more sophisticated in their ad campaigns against iMessage.  It would be a lot more convincing if they weren't just trying to get everyone to go along with their lousy standard of the month.  Sure iMessage is a prison, but it's one that serves honey.  Google wants everyone to use their prison where you drink stale bong water and have centipedes crawling on your genitals.

iMessage, the software that comes preloaded on Apple products that allows users to text within the confines of a sleek interface, in a stream of chatty discourse that constantly updates across all their Apple devices, completely implodes when it tries to reach a smartphone outside of the Jobs Network.

I'm the only Android user in a family of Apple users, and there's an easy workaround for this.  I don't know what it is specifically, but we don't have an issue with communicating with each other via SMS.

*sigh*

1) Not position, snap. It's a lovely little feature of other, modern operating system graphical user interfaces where you drag a window to a side or corner (or press a key combination) and it automatically positions itself to that side in full or half height accordingly. It's especially useful on ultrawide displays. My Windows 11 system does it just fine, as does my Arch system running LXDE.
2) Yes, yes. Power Management. Which is helpful if you're looking for additional, manual steps to stop it from going to sleep SOME of the time. You get the joy of opening up the settings, changing the power plan, closing, and then redoing EVERYTHING once you are done. It's so CONVENIENT! On Linux or Windows I have to do something barbaric like run a small script which keeps the system active while it runs.

untoldforce: When I want to get planning done, the first thing I think of is a farking group text with a dozen people.

This was my first takeaway.  I imagined this group landing in two different airports a week apart, and several members of each sub group getting lost and missing an important train.  By the end of their vacation, half of them don't know what country they are in anymore, the other half have fallen into open sewer grates.

I *barely* trave, and even I know that if you have more than 10 people, pick a group leader.  Everybody else puts up *destination* ideas.  Not itineraries, but "I'd like to see..."  Leader plans 1 or *maybe* 2 itineraries that attempts to hit destinations for everybody.  If you can't come to consensus, you can split up between the two plans when you get there, if you're not an idiot.

Or you can all scream at each other in an open text thread, have no idea what the plan is when you land, and spend the entire trip arguing with each other.

Also, Apple products are bad.  But so are Androids.

Oh yeah?  Well my mouse has multiple buttons.

/Also, on an OS called "Windows" which is built on "windows" that you have been able to move around in the same ways since 1995, it's not exactly astonishing when you move your window to the edge of the screen and it displays a ghost image of what's about to happen.
//Now, the feature where rapidly moving a window around your screen *minimizes everything else*?
///That one can burn in hell.
