Well, I guess the high school production of Porgy and Bess is out, too.

FTFA:

"The Addams Family musical reflects today's culture, Board member Robbie England said, but he did not view that as a good thing."

WTH?

Also FTFA:

"No matter what musical we choose, somebody somewhere is going to have discomfort with it," she said. "That doesn't necessarily mean that it is inappropriate for the entire school and entire community."

So one person has a problem with something we can't have it anymore?

One more thing:

"Board President Barry Naum said he reviewed the musical and found 40 things he could consider offensive, though they were not personally offensive to him.

"I know that I would enjoy seeing this play in a community theater or some other context," he said. "But when it comes down to it, we are not a community theater. We are a school.""

Community theater is almost like a high school when it comes to play, and it doesn't bother him personally, so why is he complaining?

I first read that as Porky's. I don't think a school would make that one.

Conservatives are the most scared, sniveling cowards of any collective group. Scared of a kids play. Scared of drag queens. Scared of books.

I agree. Porky's II would be far more appropriate.

Because it is an excuse for authoritarian bullshiat, and that makes his no-no all tingly

I'd make the money argument. The performance rights and equipment rentals are going to cost more than the fundraiser campaigns ever clear, and there's plenty of cheaper options.

He's spent many years of training to be a stereotype.

my eldest sister was a English elementary school teacher in Upstate NY. one year they did " Hair Spray". the kids got the biggest kick out of learning to project to the audience, learning about timing and memorizing lines, et cetera. taking a play away from the kids is terrible. the school play is something kids remember for the rest of their lives.

these must be the same sonsabiatches that ruined Halloween.

One of the core themes of the Addams Family TV show was that people are very different to one another but it doesn't mean we have to hate and fear them for it.

I can see why that upsets certain people.

I went to see an amateur production of The Addams Family musical a couple of months ago. A cousin of mine played uncle Fester. It was all about family values. The most horrifying part was the yellow dress.

Eggs really need to drop in price because there are a whole lot of administrator and community fun-breakers houses that need an application of teenage vandalism.

This is the obvious answer.  You do a performance of several short Bible stories and you make it as realistic as possible.  Like the front row of a Gallagher Aquarium Dolphin Show where people are completely soaked in limbs and blood.

Also, it's a family where the parents never fight, the kids are happy, healthy, and like each other (despite trying to kill each other while playing), and the uncle may seem creepy, but isn't really...

Wasn't the whole point of The Addams Family that they were a loving, functional family despite their bizarre antics?  Compared to every other family on TV (excepting Bluey's maybe) they have the best "family values" going.

Fucking right wing nut jobs.

I always wondered why, instead of doing one big play like South Pacific or Our Town with every school kid in it, they don't do a bunch of Harold Pinter plays on successive nights with a different cast each night.

I suppose talk of infidelity and shanking would be too much for the school boards?
