Huh, I did not know he was serving his sentence in the prison here in Tucson.

I can't imagine how much fun that must be during the summer heat. I don't suppose there's a lot of money to go into state of the art HVAC systems for federal prisons.

You mean a murdering, racist cop wasn't following federal tax laws??

I'm so shocked

.

Is anybody surprised that this doofus was also high school dropout?

But the city of Minneapolis gave him a gun and a badge anyway.

From the headline I thought maybe he had done this after his trial with all the donations I'm sure he got, but he's always been corrupt.

Is it naïve of me to have ever trusted any cop?  (yes, it is).

Even when I wasn't being written a ticket or even reporting a crime they are often nasty.

Like that time I politely asked a cop on the sidewalk "Do you know where the post office is?".  He simply said "Yes".  He finally told me after I asked more specifically but it was obvious I was a student who was new to town given that it was one a sidewalk right next to the largest university in town.

I was so polite back then.  I would have a much different reaction now.

Damn, slap on the wrist. He was facing NINE FELONY CHARGES and he gets 13 months concurrent with existing sentences. Just by sentencing guidelines (nearly doubling because of existing murder conviction), he should have gotten something like 21 months per charge.

That is a "Penis goes where?!?" photo if there ever was one.

Well yeah. The Judge didn't want to ruin a promising young man's career prospects.

jsmilky: wonder if an IRS employee dug up his file just for hell of it

I think the closer look started when he - after he was charged with killing Floyd - and his wife started putting all their assets in her name and (people thought at the time) getting fake divorced. A judged refused their first petition of divorce because he thought they were hiding funds. Then, the 2nd finalized divorce was granted under seal with only a redacted version released publicly later, because they still thought they were up to shenanigans.

This dude is not going to be able to eat any food that doesn't come prepackaged.  Every tray that goes into his cell will be covered in sh*t, infected blood and semen. Every drink will be half piss. Believe that. The whites won't even take this guy. Too much trouble. Not enough of them to go around on any yard without a whole bunch of problems.  No. 22 years is going to be a long time.

Difficulty: He's in federal prison, not state prison; he is (well, was) a cop; and he's in prison for lynching an unarmed Black man.

He'll be fine. Chances are he's in either the "dirty cops" cell block, or the "no interaction with other inmates" cell block; and in either case not in General Population. The only two threats he'll face over the next two decades are the ravages of the Sands of Time, and boredom.

Who here honestly believes he'll do anything close to 22 years?

He's an ex-cop, who is genuinely believed by a lot of the sort of people who staff prisons and law enforcement agencies to have done nothing wrong.

No prizes for guessing how they vote.

I suspect the next Republican administration will agree that it isn't worth keeping Chauvin locked up forever just because he killed one of Those People, and start discreetly working on a way to let him go. By 2040, I'd spot Chauvin at least a 50/50 chance of being in the US House of Representatives, rather than a federal prison.

He didn't file income taxes for several years.
For about five years, he filed income taxes in Florida. While legally a resident of Minnesota. (Spend 183 days of the year in the state and you have to file here.) This is tax evasion.

Based on looks and behavior, how certain are we that Derek Chauvin isn't the love child of Rudy Giuliani and a Minneapolis hooker?

I'm just asking questions.

He and possibly his wife also likely voted illegally in Florida a few times.

I love it.  Just goes to show you that if a person is scummy in one area of his life, he's probably scummy all over.

Don't let the guy who hits his dog, or his wife, tell you that he's scrupulously honest about how he runs his business.  He's not.  He's a scumbag.

Women can do it too, but they're much sneakier and usually don't hit people in public.
