It's so weird how people like Martha Stewart and Leona Helmsley go to jail for things a lot of other people do.  Just one of those mysteries I guess.

by making millions through trading on nonpublic information, executives could contribute to the perception that the stock market is rigged to benefit the privileged.

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

If I just obtained a patent to deliver X at 1/4 the cost of my competitors it would literally be the worst business decision in the world to also not short them to deliver my product at 1/5th the cost for a while while I destroy them. It only makes sense. In the long run, I save everyone money.

Martha Stewart's mistake was talking to the police/feds/irs agents. The truth won't save you, and they are not required to help you, only gather evidence against you.

Americans just don't understand how good they have it. They live some of the most unhealthy lifestyles in the world while lagging on every take care of yourself guidance in the world. If the French lived like we do, under their allowable healthcare expenditure, they would maybe make it to 68 or 69z Nowhere else in the world do you have whales showing up in the ER, with their their ALT in the 500s from on too many bud lights and KFC being offered a liver transplant. They would all be dead under any single payer system.

I wish I had a list. Rich people, cops, white men, all get treated differently.  all rungs of American life are rife with unequal treatment.  It's a shiat show.

Harvey Pitt, former chair of the SEC, said it was unwise for corporate officials to bet on the fortunes of competing companies.

Except corporate officials betting on the fortunes of competing companies is precisely how those same corporate officials made a hell of a lot of money.

That's so weird.

/Shut up, Harvey Pitt.  Are you really oblivious to maybe something else going on, you dumbdumb?

Not at all. That's the weird thing. Never listen to his music or anything. Last time I saw him on TV was that Eddie Murphy Dolemite movie. And that was a couple years ago.

I was indifferent/negative to Martha Stewart until her Justin Bieber roast. Now I am a fan to the death. I don't care if someone else wrote that bit, the fact she delivered it all straight is gold.

The records give no indication as to why executives made particular trades or what information they possessed; they may have simply been relying on years of broad industry knowledge to make astute bets at fortuitous moments. Still, the records show many instances where the executives bought and sold with exquisite timing.

Is this just a matter of filtering?  Did executives make trades with exquisitely bad timing as well?

Even if they didn't look at a spec of information that is not publicly available, they should have the expertise to better interpret the publicly available information, to understand what parts are relevant and what parts are not.

This has been going on forever. I've been in a couple of situations as an employee where I have been subject to insider rules and it can be a pain in the butt. But if I want to buy stock from my competitor, the sky is the limit.

During the Shutdown I had a very vivid dream about David Bowie.

I've never had a David Bowie phase, never owned an album. When I awoke, I immediately thought of a couple dozen musicians who would've made more sense.

A year later, I found out David Bowie had bought a secluded house to retire in, about a mile or two from my family's house when I was born. And then a lot of odd details in the dream made sense.

Maybe this is a sign you should smoke weed.
Maybe this is a sign that I should smoke some weed right now.

Who am I to argue against a dream's message?
