Wait. Maybe I'm misunderstanding.  Did she hide the gun in HER bush?because that is a different crime

Is it stealing if the property is abandoned? And how about some charges for leaving the gun where a child might get it. I used to send my kids into bushes looking for hypodermics that might still be useful.

What kind of idiot decides to take home an abandoned gun?  What if somebody had been shot with that gun and the cops were looking for it?  And as mentioned elsewhere, why would you stash your gun like that?  That has to be abandonment and a public safety crime.

I don't know if I can handle all these responsible gun owners.

That would require safe storage laws. Even if a state does have it usually that's only for the home. We are so farking farked that you can leave a gun in a public toilet or bush for a kid to find and not even get a misdemeanor.

I'm confused as to why this man is being arrested for removing highly dangerous abandoned property from a public area. How do they know he wasn't going to turn it in to police at his leisure. None of this makes any sense.

this.
in a sane country she would be going to jail for reckless endangerment for abandoning a (presumably loaded) firearm in a public place.
and he would be going to jail for picking up a firearm and keeping it, thereby carrying an unlicensed firearl unlawfully.

but in america throwing loaded guns on the ground like parade candy for anyone to pick up is just a thing you can do.

and if you run someone down with your car you can just head home and go to bed and claim that you're going to the police station to report the accident really slowly.

"I had to leave my gun in a bush because weapons were not allowed" isn't responsible gun ownership no matter what you say.

and remember there was no bad guy threatening her.  she never needed the gun.  she was equally as safe as if she had just left it at home.

ignoring the safety issues caused by an abandoned gun the 'crime' situation here is no different than if she had an expensive pair of shoes or piece of jewelry she wasnt allowed to wear at her job and she decided to throw it in the bush outside and it got taken.

Victims don't need to be disarmed - a guy with a gun in his hand dies just like an unarmed victim in the real world.
Just ask anybody who ever ACTUALLY had the balls to carry a gun in war, and not just brag about their CCW on the internets.

He saw her stash the gun. It might have been used in a crime, but he could still get $200-300 on the street for it.

As for her, WTAF! Couldn't she approach a cop or TSA agent and say, "I forgot to place my firearm in the trunk of my car, so is there a secure locker where I could store it until after my shift?"

How much you want to bet she's prohibited from possessing firearms? I'd say the odds are better than 50-50.

Tennessee does not require a license or permit to own or purchase a gun and does not require owners to register firearms.

baka-san: What

When I worked at the Jazz arena here, people would bring in knives of all kinds, despite a zero tolerance policy on blades of any kind. The lazy farks would go hide them in trees, rather than walk back to their cars, and we knew this. We would then police the grounds and collect the knives, lest some asshole stab someone and claim that the arena was responsible because that's where the knife came from. I saw some that were worth $350, it's crazy what people try and hide.

This was probably similar. Someone realized they were at the airport and still had their gun. I DNRTFA, now I should go see how close I came.

2023-03-17 10:50:26 PM
He didn't steal it.  Even if he knew she owned it at one time, even if he saw her put it in the bushes, she abandoned it.  I don't think he should even have to give it back to her.  Free gun for him, inglorious stupidity for her.

2023-03-17 11:19:39 PM
There's so much fail in this story, they probably work for a British tabloid.

2023-03-17 11:22:02 PM
It's not the shrubbery's fault. It was a plant.

2023-03-18 12:18:49 AM
Nice victim blaming here. I'm sure you all say "she was asking for it." Typical. She wasn't the one who stole the gun. It's like when I left brand new Escalade behind a 7-11 overnight over on MLK Blvd and it got stolen.  People acted like it was my fault for leaving it unlocked with the keys in it. I didn't commit a crime. I shouldn't have to worry about leaving my property without it being stolen.

It's not my fault you couldn't resist the temptation to crime. But this lady, being a responsible gun owner, knew she couldn't take the gun inside. But she didn't just leave it out on the sidewalk, even though a person in this country *should* be able to do so, without some a-hole taking his shiat. No, she didn't 'ask for it' by leaving it out for all to see, she took the time to hide it safely in a bush. What more do you think she do?  Walk the gun back to the car? She was running late. This country depends on her, so simply stashing the gun was the best possible option, all things considered. The thief and thief alone is to blame.

Depends on the state.  Some require safe storage in a place of business - which may or may not be a reasonable requirement.  Supposedly, the person who stashed the gun was going to work, so the safe storage law may still apply.  Regardless of the state's law, this is an incredibly stupid thing to do and shows the gun owner has proven to be far too irresponsible to be trusted with a firearm.
