The problem using vehicles to plug leaks in earthen dams is the clearance underneath the vehicle creates a ready-made tunnel and their irregular shape makes it hard to seal around them.

A place where such a sacrifice might be effective would be in the role of rip-rap to protect a levee from erosion by a strong current.

Srsly tho, nice try guys.

I'm pretty sure insurance won't pay out if you film yourself ghost riding your truck into a levee.

Might make it more likely they pay out on a total loss of whatever is on that field though. Those trees they're protecting must be a good but more valuable than a couple farm trucks if they're willing to sacrifice them in an act of desperation.

They just had to slow the water down long enough to repair the levee. And it worked:

It wasn't meant to be a permanent solution. You should give them more credit.

I give them tons of credit. I'm sure their crops are worth way more than a 13 year old pickup.

I can't see the plates that clearly but if it had farm tags then it definitely wasn't worth any money. My ex-FIL ran a farm and he'd run trucks down until they couldn't pass inspection anymore without crazy repairs and then register them for farm use.

It is perfectly acceptable as an emergency repair as you are trying to get volume in a hurry before it washes away and the truck provides stability that shoveling a few rocks or dirt doesn't provide as the flow will simply wash iat away. The trucks gave the other material being dumped in something to fix to.  You are just trying to stop the flooding and old pickups are a good enough patch job.  Of course those trucks are a weakness in the future so more permanent repairs are needed, but stopping the water from flowing required fast action before the breech expanded.

Good thing they weren't EVs. The lithium batteries would assplode ant pollute the water something nasty.

In follow-ups they've already said they're going to pull the trucks when they can. It worked, and even though it was ridiculous, it looked like they knew what they were trying to do.

I was mostly replying to studebaker hoch's obnoxious, smug, "Nice try" post when the Hail Mary worked.

That sarcasm meter has come loose again, see if you can lock it down.

I mean "nice try", way to commit and execute an emergency plan using whatever you have around.

If they had asked the state. They would have been given 10001 reasons why they couldn't do it.

Thats why it is often seen as better to act and beg for forgiveness later.  If they waited for approval, the breech would have been too wide to fill in and the whole area would have been lost to flooding.

You weren't being sarcastic. You just called it wrong. Trucks aren't a good solution filling in a berm, and you were right about that. You assumed they were going to stop with the trucks.
