I can somewhat sympathize with this woman, I'm right at the upper end of what's sold in normal shoe stores, I used to run into the problem of them being sold out of shoes in my size and in styles that I liked.  One time I had to hit up 4 different stores to find a pair of sneakers in my size that wasn't 25 different colors... which I just find tacky.

Now I order my shoes online, I can get away with it because I've stuck with the same 2 basic models of New Balance shoes for like 20 years now.  They're actually both the same model, but one's the steel toe variant for work.

Yeah I feel lucky compared to her. I can order shoes online in my size, the stores don't carry 12.5 - they carry 12 and 13, which don't fit me, but not 12.5

My grandpa was a specialty shoemaker at a store in Kansas City, making shoes for people with two different sized feet and various conditions, and he always stressed how important good materials and fit were.

"But there's a lot of people, 80 percent of people, don't fit into the exact straight size shoe,' said Mohaupt." Well, I suppose I'm one of them, though my size isn't all that unusual. I struggle to find shoes that seem right for me. But this suggests that the broader industry isn't bothering to try, if most people struggle to find the right fit.

Anyway, I'm happy for her.
