Now Fark is interested in sod. I submitted articles about the grass for the world cup being flown in from the US, and they didn't get greened. I guess it was the anti Qatar sentiment.

Could also be that soccer just doesn't have a big following on fark.  The premiere league thread further down the page has like 1/3rd of the comments as the wrestling thread, and that's not even a real sport.

Honestly had no idea he was still around.   I lived in the KCMO area in the '80s and he was a legend even then.   The Royals and Chiefs never took him for granted, and the game announcers interviewed him in the pregames a few times every season.

Well, I can imagine. Spending all that time in the cold cargo hold of a plane it probably turned brown pretty quickly.

Nah, but I truly thought people would be a bit interested in all the stadiums in Qatar getting sod from Georgia. I think practice fields too.

Royals even inducted him into their HoF.

Still, I'm sure someone will find a way to use this to complain that this gives the Chiefs an unfair "Home Field" advantage...  *badum-tss*

/And he retired from full time in 1999, so....

George Toma is a legend in Kansas City but it is funny that for years the Royals and Chiefs had artificial surfaces while he worked there. The Super Bowl was his showcase.

If they send him to prepare a field in London, he'll probably need a different nickname.

Or just lean into it.  Get him a wallet that has "BAMS" punched into it - "Bad Ass Mother Sodder".

Arrowhead got grass in 1994 and Kauffman followed the next year.
