Some other changes that should be apparent by now for those who haven't watched in awhile:

• The Marshes including Stan no longer live in the green house they used to live in. They live outside of South Park on a cannabis farm Randy started called "Tegridy Farms" growing and selling "Tegridy Weed."

• Cartman's Mom became a realtor briefly but Cartman ruined that so badly out of jealousy for the time she was spending at work that they lost their own home, so now he lives in a hotdog fast-food trailer.

• Because of the above, there are no more scenes of the four boys standing at the bus stop and chatting before school.

Wikipedia is maybe the gold standard, but how many websites have a historical list of all the changes ever made? Usually a retcon is a cut and paste. Wikipedia is the place where people document histories that aren't important enough for books and documentaries.

You can have Cupid Ye shooting up an elementary school with antisemitism arrows because of TikTok (peak 2020s, by the way) and realize "Token Black" is a little too uncouth (while still essentially keeping the name as a homophone).  And they've certainly gotten more mileage out of his family since the change.

Yeah, never forget 200/201 because you'll never see them again. Or "Super Best Friends." Those episodes have Muhammad, you see, so Comedy Central suits don' wanna get blown up. Too bad since 200/201 is a key point in the continuity of Cartman's life (finding out who his father really was) among other things.

Unabashedly offensive? People point to the Mormon and Scientology episodes, but they've had "Jewbilee" and a college called "Jewliard" and a "Jewpacabra" and so much more, and this with one of the creators being Jewish. And as I pointed out upthread Token's surname and that of his family was originally Williams, not Black, so he was just Token Williams. They changed it after the fact to make it more offensive. Then two decades later do a hilarious retcon episode to try to make it look like we'd all just been hearing it wrong all this time.

Even self-censorship? I mean seriously, if they decided to change the name because they didn't like the look who gives a fark? I could see maybe being upset if it was an edict from on high, but given their history and clout at the network I guarantee it isn't that. It's like when people complain about blackface episodes getting "censored" off of streaming services when it's the creators of the shows saying "Actually, could you take these down for us? Thanks". Or people who complain that Howard Stern calls her "Wendy the Slow Adult" now, even though he treats her exactly the same as always otherwise

Have you watched the Amos and Andy show? It's not bad for its time-they hired Black actors-and the humor is the same as sitcoms today.  The original radio show was performed by white men doing a "blaccent" but the TV show holds up.

Have you watched the Amos and Andy show? It's not bad for its time-they hired Black actors-and the humor is the same as sitcoms today.  The original radio show was performed by white men doing a "blaccent" but the TV show holds up.

They also retired a lot of characters, especially the offensive racist stereotype ones (with the exception of City Wok proprietor Tuong Lu Kim for some reason).

All the piss is gone from the show. Its dead.

Even he got retconned to being a white guy with Dissociative Personality Disorder who only thought he was a Chinese guy.

I guess I didnt realize racism in America had been solved. And all this time the name wasnt really racist anyway. We just heard it wrong.

I couldn't tell if Randy's anti-woke speech was satire, or if it was Trey Parker trying to actually make that point.  or both... He thinks it, but he also thinks thinking it, deserves mockery.

His name was spelled as "Token" on official South Park \materials. Also, his family's surname was originally Williams in their first appearances, but was changed to "Black" later on without explanation.

The show works because it is unabashedly offensive. Censorship with the show would be a shame. I mean, Token is one of the lesser offensive things in the show.


The show works because it's funny. The unabashedly offensive thing is secondary. If all it took to have a successful TV show was being unabashedly offensive I would have written the most successful show in TV history when I was in middle school.

That being said, there could have been a point where T&M looked at the show and said, "You know, that we named him Token isn't just potentially offensive, it's also not that funny". I mean, it's an okay joke, I guess? Is it one you want your heroes to bend over backwards protecting?

Oh it's not that I got corrected again, I'm at peace with my mistake.  It's more "why reply to the very Weeners of a 40+ comment thread without even reading the very next comment?"  Are they that self absorbed that they think they're the first to point it out?
