I usually use Google Earth, doesn't Apple Maps also adjust for road closures?

Dollar General Schneider hires contracts with ...
I mean, the name of the actual trucking company is right there in the photo.

The driver either is, or works for someone, leased to Schneider.

Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra said Brooks "or his company," Dollar General, will be expected to pay the towing fee, "which is going to be a big bill."

If Brooks owns the tractor, he'll pay the bill or lose the tractor. DG may pay for the trailer, if they actually own it. Or they may just write off the load. I know the nuances of trucking businesses escapes most people, but the cops should be able to actually look at the permit book and correctly name the owner.

Dollar General has stores in lots of back-road places. I've talked to a couple of drivers who worked for companies delivering to the stores. They quit because of stores located in places that the customers can barely get their dually pickup truck into, much less an OTR sleeper rig pulling a 53 foot trailer.

The question remains: can the trucker reach the Northeast Fail Yahtzee by hitting a New England covered bridge, peeling off the top of his trailer under an overpass on the Hutch, and getting caught in Smuggler's Notch?

Much more of this to look forward to when the highways fill up with 16 and 17 year old boys driving semis.

These trucks don't use either one.  If one is installed, it will be a specialized GPS system that route them around roads trucks are prohibited from, low clearance underpasses, etc.

Thanks, you'd think one of the GPS manufacturers would partner with Google or Apple though, they could sell their current traffic information for a lot of money to them.

Why does everybody rag on Dollar General? They have one in my pod-dunk town of 500 - and it's a great place, and a lot cheaper than the convenience store, to pick up a couple of items when you run out of milk or soda or soup.

(The driver) was driving a 2019 FRG Semi and pulling a 2007 53-foot Stoughton trailer,

Well, I'm certainly glad this important and relevant information was provided, but it only raises more questions.  What brand of tires were on the truck?  Where did he buy his fuel?  Loves?  Flying J?   Was he wearing flip-flops?

The public must be aware of these important facts before making an informed decision about this.

Their stock of plastic storage tubs isn't what it used to be, but for what they are, Dollar General is fine.

My BiLs brother drove for Dollar General for a few years.  In addition to unloading the truck, part of the contract his company had required drivers to unload the trucks.  He greatly enjoyed this aspect as he got paid decently for it, and it forced him to do something physical.  He ended up losing a ton of weight and was in much better health.  But like every other job he had, after a few years either he or his company decided it was best he didn't work there and he drifted on to his next adventure.

/cool story, I know.

Plenty of truck drivers I know use Google Maps, Waze, and other consumer phone GPS apps (and they aren't rookie independents). And the truck-specific GPS are only as good as the databases.

We tell them to read the road signs. We had a driver get a restricted bridge ticket using his own phone GPS. He passed multiple sets of signs warning of the restricted bridge. No, we didn't pay his ticket for him.

We had another driver who, using Google Maps, could tell his normal route was blocked, took a "detour." Passed five different signs warning of a height restriction and still hit the bridge with the flashing lights on it. I don't know if he was fired or merely suspended for a while.

If I was sent to a place like that, I'd look on street view first to see if there are road signs indicating a restricted route.
