It's a copy. Nobody gives a shiat, including Da Vinci.

Leonardo would certainly have been intrigued by new oils, silly children.

It's true.  Also, Botticelli says I can double-park while I get coffee.

I've seen this movie. Those nutjobs are going to cause a bigger disaster by their own direct action, all the while thinking they're helping.

It's a stupid tactic but... subby... they literally caused like 3x the damage to a 'nearby sofa'.

The frame was barely damaged; the painting is fine.

2023-02-08 10:43:13 PM
let's all bow our heads for a moment of silence for the nearby sofa

2023-02-08 10:44:58 PM
Perhaps they instead should try defacing the property of oil and executives

2023-02-08 10:45:04 PM
if Leonardo da Vinci was looking down on us, he would 100% agree with what we've done. He was quoted as saying that Nature never breaks her own laws.

How the eff does that have anything to with protesting big oil?

2023-02-08 10:45:09 PM
da Vinci would have been too puzzled by the electricity and running water in the museum to pay attention to their temper tantrum.

Meh.  If I ran a museum or gallery and this happened I'd just close the gallery for the day, kick everyone else out, lock the doors and turn off the lights.  They can just sit in the dark with their hands glued to the wall like the morons that they are.

pour a bucket of glue on THEM and just say you are here to help...!

"We need them to start realising the laws that we have at the moment in this country are hostage to private capital, big oil and ultimately are not protecting everybody."

EVERYONE ALREADY REALIZES THAT you brainless twits. Your gluing yourselves to various artworks and throwing soup at the walls is not accomplishing anything besides making yourselves and your cause look like a bunch of childish fools and incompetent vandals.

Good!  This only sticks it to rich fat cats because working class people are too stupid and uncultured to appreciate great works of art.

Who's with me?!

DaVinci tagged churches.

He also precipitated the exploits of Hudson Hawk.

Da Vincis original is a fresco. Not oil paint. No priceless antiquities were damaged in the protest of a copy.
Hitlers Luftewaffe nearly obliterated the original. Luckily it was sandbagged and protected when a bomb landed just 80 ft away.

I believe them. It's not too hard to know what a person who died before you were born would say about a given subject. For instance, I know that Marilyn Monroe would have totally been on board with having sex with me. I also know that JFK would have totally been on board with Marilyn Monroe having sex with me.

One of my favorite things is when people reassess historical figures and discover that Lo! They actually believed pretty much the same things the writer did!

they'd probably consider that a huge win?

i mean they're doing this for the publicity if getting on a few cell phone videos while they get unglued and drug out by security.  the publicity if they got not just the recordings of them doing it but then also shut down the whole gallery for an entire day would be an order of magnitude more...

Private security, or cops, are trigger happy. That's the whole appeal of gated communities and enclaves. Ain't no museum security gonna pull a dirty Harry fantasy.

Would approve of you farknuts damaging/possibly destroying his art to protest oil.

That was linseed or other plant-derived drying oils-not fossil fuel oil. He might have used natural bitumen on his palette I suppose. . .

That said, Leonardo lived in an era when plague and death was still plenty, and in an age of zealous doomsayers. Once you got him to understand climate change (which I think he could grasp with help, unlike most republicans today), I'm still not sure he'd think the destruction of art was OK, even when the future of the planet was on the line, frankly. Oh, and he was a weapon designer, so he had flexible morals.

This as at least as valid an argument as, say Supreme Court justices asserting what Hamilton or Jefferson or 15th-century witch-burners would have to say about short-barreled semi-automatic quick-change high-capacity box magazine fed pistol-gripped rifles, or abortions.

The Toilet of Venus: In 1914, a suffragette attacked this Diego Velazquez painting with a meat cleaver. There is almost no apparent damage except sometimes you have to jiggle the handle of the toilet.

The Pieta: Michelangelo's sculpture of the dying Christ was attacked in 1972 by Laszlo Toth. Toth apparently thought that he was Christ so he did what Christ would've done: Whale away on something with a hammer. He was put in an Italian mental institution (or as they call it, "Parliament") for two years. After that, he was deported to Australia (or, as they call it, "Poison Animal Land")...

Felony murdercouch damage rule.  The cops would not have damaged the couch if the derps hadn't glued themselves to it, so the criminals are responsible.

They look like confused college freshman brats who recently started to go vegan and listen to 60s music and the smiths and don't realize that without certain animal proteins they're brains don't reason properly.
