TFA is pretty clear this is about mediocre or even spoiled wine, I don't think there's any suggestion that it improves anything other than goon.

The "classy" way to drink inferior/compromised red wine is to dump it on the rocks with an oj floater and lemon wedge.  Redneck sangria!

Surprisingly drinkable as hell.

Nothing says Valentine's Day than a cocktail drunk by Basque teenagers and US college students wanting to get drunk on cheap, bad-quality wine. Might as well mix some cough syrup, sparkling wine, and a splash of lemon-lime soda and call it a cousin of a Venetian spritz.

For Valentine's, Mrs Samurai and I are just going to polish off some of the leftover gummy tequila worms from the Super Bowl party.

They soaked in cheap tequila for 2 days, now they're soaking in limeade for the next two days
