Was wondering how this was even possible considering my 10 year old's rec league games consistently get into the 30s.

Then I read the article.

Implementing a shot clock would help, but both coaches shouldn't be able to coach anymore if this was their strategy.

Really?

The reason they don't have a shot clock in Oklahoma is because they can't count backwards from 24 let alone 35.

They blended soccer with basketball.

Oops, that was said in the headline!

Oklahoma is at least 50 years behind the civilized world in most things.  Why would something as mundane as sports procedures be any different?

That's embarrassing, both from a coaching standpoint and a player standpoint.

If I was the AD I'd fire my coaches for that shiat. That's not basketball.

The states can set rules for basketball?  Wait until DeSantis learns about this!

Did no one read the article?!  The ladder was broken so they couldn't get the balls out of the peach basket. This is how the game was meant to be played!

* Instead of three-point shots, "woke" players will only get three-fifths of a point.
* The governor gets to appoint all referees.
* Girls basketball will be banned because too many WNBA players are lesbians.
* Nets will be replaced by orange crates to promote the state's favorite crop.
* Immigrant players at IMG Academy will be bussed to Georgetown University.
* The governor will be authorized to recount the score of any game.
* In NCAA games, the game ends whenever the Florida-based team is ahead.
* In the event of a hurricane, the visiting team forfeits the game.

I like a good defensive game.

So, what you are saying is the entire league needs to be disbanded and every coach fired for even considering this, because gamers put in more physical work playing COD than both of those teams combined did

Whoa!  I've heard of not RTFL but not the headline?  You win...something, or lose, I can't decide.

It was one coaches strategy; I'm guessing because they had no hope to beat the other team, and they still lost.

FTA: "What are we doing here in Oklahoma?"

Those of us in civilization would love to know. Typically not about basketball though.

"Weatherford sophomore CJ Nickson accounted for all of his team's points, surpassing 1,000 career points in the process."

He must be the oldest sophomore in history

Absolute shame that high school game has better defense than NBA

Well, hopefully we won't see the same kind of tactics when Weatherford goes to play Donniedarko next week.

Hey guys, what's going on in this thread?

I remember this happening in Wisconsin at the state tournament. Maybe in the finals of D1 or D2 and people were booing like crazy. Wisconsin I dont think still has a shot clock for hs hoops.

Iowa football hates those no defense arcade football scores.

For the picket fence to work, you actually have to take a jump shot.

Read the "local" USA Today Oklahoman about this and is seems the state governing body for HS sports is worried about the cost and technical problems a shot clock would bring to the districts, especially the small districts.  They quoted one board member saying he talked to a local college AD and that is what he was told.

I live about 30 miles east of Anadarko and heard this last night while driving up from down south.  Didn't sound like it was a very entertaining game to watch, although a friend of mine who coaches a different basketball team in another town was in attendance.  Said something about good defensive tactics which I don't know a whole lot about basketball other than put the ball in the hoop more times than the other team, bit one observation he made was the unsportsmanlike conduct of the crowd. If I recall correctly, he said the guy at the announcers table chucked a water bottle onto the court after the buzzer.
