As I said in the first thread-- the polite thing to do is bring it down, examine it, and return it. Instead, the military's first reports were they had to check it for explosives-- after hitting it with a missile.

Now I admit how to bring it down free from air traffic and ensure it doesn't land on top of somebody's head presented some interesting proposals not only from Farkers, but probably many of a classified character from experts keen to consider every plausibility to keep the defense secrets of Itchy & Scratchy from becoming public knowledge...

But a laser to poke small holes sufficient to result in a slow descent and a company of drones attached by super-sticky tethers to guide it safely would have been a sanity and poise superior to a heat-seeking missile.
