They've had HBO Go, HBO Now, and HBO Max. I'm not following them to a fourth platform. Despite HBO Max being glitchy as shiat, they had a semi-decent set-up with the "hubs" feature. If they can't fold a new merger into that feature, they're never gonna figure it out. It's just gonna be new service and new subscription prices and tiers every 3-5 years. Between this and David Zaslav mucking everything up, it's just not worth it.

They know they can't get me to pay $5 more for sh*t I don't want...

I'd keep it to finish up Last of Us and then dump it.

I do not want to pay extra for Discovery. If I want a program from them, I'll buy the whole season on Amazon.

It's bad enough that Disney insists on keeping both Disney+ and Hulu around separately, but at least they both have full catalogs of old and new content.

I can't imagine Discovery+ has enough of either to get that many users to actually subscribe to it on its own, although it would be a nice added feature to have within the likes of HBO Max (similar to how Disney+ has a ton of NatGeo stuff).  Keeping it separate is just going to kill it.

If they added it "for free" included in the current price??

They would totally lock me in for long term. That would be a nice addition and worth the price.

Disney and Hulu seems a little different. There's a lot of agreements going on in hulu that I think prevents it.

Update, 1:34 PM: Speaking to The A.V. Club, a source from WarnerMedia clarified that WBD's plan to bring together HBO Max and Discovery+ content remains unchanged.

That's some fine reporter work, Lou.

Disney also doesn't own 100% of Hulu, iirc.

Exactly... they would have to buy out the rest and their debt pile is f*cking insane right now. There's no way they could do it.

I think that one is so they can segregate "kid-friendly" from "not-kid-friendly".  I know they do have some not-kid-friendly on Disney+, but those mostly seem to be a way to keep IP together.  But I severely doubt that Disney really wants to have Katie's Letterkenny Dating Adventures* and Mickey's Preschool Funhouse sitting side by side on the recommendations bar.

* Hulu also has outside content, so I suspect Disney does also does not want to muddy the waters as to what it owns and what is being licensed to it.

This process, at least, has been in motion for months: HBO Max had begun more prominently featuring flagship Discovery+ programs like 90 Day Fiancé and Chip and Joanna Gaines' Fixer Upper.

No shiat.

Just like with everything revolving around WBD.

What idiot thought this made sense enough to write it?

Did some idiot from reddit make up the stupidest thing they could think of and then 'leak' it to someone on AV Club and they thought 'hmm, sounds good' and write it?

/They already said many months ago that the pricing for both would essentially be kept separate on the combined app (similar to what Paramount+ did with Showtime).

They finally offered Disney plus/Hulu, but with commercials for *both*.

It definitely has nothing to do with kid friendly or not. Disney plus still has Deadpool 1&2.

It isn't like I addressed that very point the first time or anything....

Its not worth 30 seconds to install an app?  The app you DO have installed required periodic updates.... Do you not update them? Not worth it? Takes too much time?

Warner needs to understand that HGTV and everything similar to it is not appointment television. It is something mindless and (sometimes) pretty that you have on in the background while you're making breakfast or dinner.

I make a point to sit down and watch the stuff on HBO. I'm not going enter any combination of log-in to see another vintage home turned into an open floor plan modern farmhouse with ship lap. Not now, not ever.

which has been the more cursed company at this point through its various buyouts and acquisitions: Warner Bros or Chrysler?

Here is what concerns me with this.  It's been strongly implied that with HBO and Discovery merging that their content would move to HBO.  Then, they recently told us a price hike was coming.  Was it still worth it to keep HBO, since it hasn't been dazzling us much lately.

Then, we figured - yeah, but it'll totally be worth it with Discovery bundled in.  Now, after the price hike, it's "not so much in that Discovery bundle". I feel a bait and switch with all of this.  Bastards!
And I know I was never promised anything, but without the content merger I'm not so interested in hbo any longer.

Remember a couple of years ago when we were complaining about the major media producers walling off their content in their own streaming service?  Disco has apparently decided that was too good of a plan for customers.

HBO fine is alone. Stop mucking with it.
They frequently release shows that have stellar viewership numbers.
Get out of their way.

Another bad show that no one will stream
