chatGPT doesn't work the same way the hitler loving teen sex robot Microsoft debuted a few years ago does.

I tried a few searches this morning.

All of them just gave me the usual link results except their examples, I couldn't get the little bot to show up on any search I tried.

My workplace only allows the Microsoft browser and so the default is Bing and my god it sucks.

I look forward to seeing how many people kill themselves with ChatGPT when it replies with factual answers without context.

There was an excellent example here the other night of a guy who is probably going to burn his house down because he asked "What gauge wire do I need for Xamps" rather than "What gauge wire should I use when wiring a plug for an Xamp appliance in my residential kitchen in Florida".

/I asked the best way to clean my house and it suggested I combine the whitening/sanitizing power of bleach with the sparkling power of ammonia

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you...

I'm reading a lot of mockery about ChatGPT and Bing, but the horrid reality is that 50% of Google searches fail, and 50% of the rest retrieve incorrect answers.  I wish I could monetize screwing it up 75% of the time.

ChatGPT is better.  And its long overdue.

It's funny that people believe that standard Google search results are optimized for truthiness and not for advertisingness.

Quick, tell me what percentage of search stops with autocomplete? How about without ever clicking on any link?

Having messed around with the free version I can say that with a few updates for up to date information and better accuracy checks a ChatGPT type search engine would be massively better than google is currently. Now this could all be ruined by ads but that is something to worry about in the future.

I'm wondering whether ChatGPT will improve or worsen my porn searches.

Will they train it on all of the porn?

If I search "amputee midget transexual in a magic show orgy" is it going to wink and go, "You know what, I have just the thing for you in the old archives and suggest you skip to 8 minutes 40 seconds"

You think Google is bad...just wait.

Google can reorder/exclude search results and it can mess with autofill...but it's just indexing content.

Facebook reinforces echo chambers by showing you content it thinks you will like, while also doing everything it can to make money off your data and still has ads.

But ChatGPT and the like...

ChatGPT will generate the content on the fly. And all sorts of data about all of us already exists and continues to grow. ChatGPT can modify the results in targeted ways.

Google 'What midsize SUV is best 2023' and sure it's ads and the ordering might be suspect. But you get to someone else who isn't Google.

With something like ChatGPT the answer can be influenced by who paid for the top answer, and it can be influenced by what it already knows about you. And it would all happen transparently because all you get is the output.

We're in the future now.

It can search for a definition and pull an item from a list.

That doesn't imply it can use them itself or understand that you used one in context, either would maybe demonstrate understanding of a pun.
