(National Review)   In his defense, maybe George Santos was just lying when he said the Hobbit movies are superior to Lord of the Rings   (nationalreview.com) divider line

Of course he thinks they're better.  After all, they're based on a book he wrote.

2023-02-08 7:56:31 AM
He didn't watch or read LoTR or the Hobbit.  He was too busy ghost writing for Stephen King since King's injury in 1999.  Oh, and that Harry Potter thing, he wrote that too.

Now now, maybe he meant the Rankin and Bass Hobbit cartoon movie.   Which is awesome.

"The greatest adventure......"

Lord of the Rings: ~1200 pages turned into three movies.
The Hobbit: ~ 300 pages turned into three movies.

Yeah, one of those had a bit too much filler material added in.

So far, George Santos' worse offense yet is the accusations of sexual assault from the intern he made up.

Well, the Ring Trilogy was his autobiography so he is an expert on it.

Wow!  He's a liar and has bad taste in movies based on Tolkien books.

Glad the Natty Review is on the case and unmasking this villain.

Yeah, just watch the old cartoon. It was actually more entertaining.

Rumor has it Santos was the one who convinced Glenn Yarborough to stick with the folk genre.

I first read (part of) LOTR when I was 12, at summer camp. It's a hell of a good read, and the movies are pretty well done, at least to my taste. Hobbit, I have always felt, is a book for pre-teens, while LOTR is for older tastes.

IF Santos has read them (and that's a doubtful "if"), I give him credit. Tolkien, in spite of all the poetry (and songs, which don't present especially well in print), is a wonderful story-teller...so Santos has that in common with him, which is nice.

The Battle of Five Armies??!!!
I bet he thought Attack of the Clones, and the Last Jedi were the best of the Star Wars franchise.

Let me guess, National Review is upset not bc that opinion is twisted and wrong, but bc they think the Hobbit movies are woke for some bizarre reason.

/Can't bring myself to deal with NRO "logic" today so no, I'm not reading the article

I don't agree with National Review's politics AT ALL, but they fumed about Trump and still mock him. And hey, they're making fun of Santos which more than you're get from Kevin McCarthy.

And also, lots of conservatives like J.R.R. Tolkein and C.S. Lewis and it's a natural crossover with atheistic D&D players. If you've ever played D&D in real life, you have met that guy.  You think he's pretty cool and you've gotten baked out of your skull and then he starts going on about how evolution is a lie.

I don't think it was better, but it's not nearly as bad as FARK would have us believe.

Man I don't like those Hobbit movies. I went to see the first one at midnight in St. Pete and someone had stolen my bike when I got out so that was annoying.

I've seen bits and pieces of the other ones but there's just nothing there except silly CGI chases and pretty ugly main characters.

I've read all the books and wish Guillermo del Toro stayed on.

Somewhere out on the internet, there is a fan edit of the Hobbit trilogy that combines all three parts into one film of approximately four hours.

There are any number of fan edits that do that, including one that brings it down to about two hours by cutting anything that was not in the book.

/I have yet to watch any of them

Still problematic.

The dollar bill is supposed to be in front of him, acting as bait, but it looks like it has behind his left ear.

Although, I have zero photoshop skills, so I am not really one to talk.

Somehow, I think that "Triumph of the Will" is your favorite movie, and "Downfall" when you want to be sad and have a good cry.
