Family Guy already covered the "Where do you see yourself in 5 years question."

I am so grateful that I will never have to endure another job interview.  If something happens where I lose (or quit)  my current job, I'm simply going to be retired.

At the third interview, "What part of this job do you anticipate being the most difficult for you?"

My answer was quoted back to me in the sorry-not-you phone call. I should have lied.

I once had an interview for an entry level position at a grocery store.  It should be noted that I was approaching middle age at this point.

I had been getting no luck as an uneducated person with odd job experience looking for work, with one prospect after another completely failing.  Then this grocery store manager asked me the canned question of "where do you see yourself in five years?"

By this point of the interview, it had become clear it probably wasn't going to work out.  And I had been through enough degrading and embarrassing interviews that I just snapped.

"Lady, if planning my life successfully was a 'thing' for me, do you think I'd be here as a 29 year old man, applying for a job as a stock boy?"

After an amused combined with annoyed look from the manager for a couple of seconds: "Well, I don't think this is going to happen."

Lol

Got a job later at a public transportation company and worked my way up.

Papalia commented that employers ask about hobbies "To get to know you , to see if we like you, if you'll be a good fit at the company etc etc."

I don't want you to "get to know me", I want a job. I don't want to be your friend. I don't care about your hobbies or kids or what you're doing this weekend.

I sometimes help people with school applications, because I'm pretty good at navigating academia. I had one young woman mention repeatedly in her med school application materials that she also wanted to be a mother. I made her take all references to it out. They don't want a future mom, Jenny; they want an insane workaholic who doesn't even have sex. Just pretend you are one until you get in.

/she was super smart
//and super empathic
///and totally deserved to be both a mom and a doctor

If you think 30's aren't middle-aged, then I got some news for you: you're old.

I'm pretty sure -- hope? -- that 40-60 is middle-aged, and 60+ is old.

In Israel, they refer to 60+ as the "third age."

They were right about some stuff (like all the stuff they said about medicine for profit) except things in healthcare have gotten worse since then.

If you expect to live to 90 then 0-29 = youth, 30-59 = middle, 60+ = senior.

You could exclude childhood to try to split up only the adult time; with a more realistic life expectancy of 78 you get 20 year segments instead of 30. So 18-37 = whippersnapper, 38-57 = middle, 58+ = senior.

Most people seem to think it goes like this when referring to themselves.:

0 -20  childhood
21-45 young adult
46 -70 middle age
71+ late middle age
