This isn't about MOND or dark energy or matter-antimatter symmetry.  This is about throwing out a scientific theory because it contradicts what some Bronze age desert nomad wrote about how life developed.

Mia Taylor is a sophomore at Helena High School. She told the committee, "If we remove scientific theory from science curriculums, what can be taught will be limited. It is the school's job to educate its students."

The bill is sponsored by freshman Republican Senator Daniel Emrich from Great Falls. In his testimony, Emrich said the bill would make sure students are taught what a scientific fact is.

"If we operate on the assumption that a theory is fact, unfortunately, it leads us to asking questions that may be potentially based on false assumptions," Emrich said.

Is Freshman Republican Senator Daniel Emrich a Freshman at Helena High School that is also a Republican Senator, or a Freshman Senator, or both?

Let's try this again...

The whole 'facts versus theory' stupidity notwithstanding...

Just because you make a scientific discovery that accepted by the scientific community, doesn't mean it's going to remain the same or accurate until the heat death of the universe. Up until the 90's, public education used the 'orbit' model to teach atomic science. Each electron or valence shell had a defined orbit around the nucleus. Then, about 1990, the curriculum was altered to use the 'probability cloud' model. Orbits were less defined and more 'this is where you're likely to encounter the electrons in any given state'. Was the orbit model wrong? Not entirely. It's just in the decades since the orbit model was accepted, research and better equipment lead to the development of the probability cloud model, in accordance with quantum science. Humanity's understanding grew, and teaching methods were adjusted accordingly.

Also...

On the subject of 'scientific fact'. It is a demonstrable, observable fact that about 1 in every 1000 live male births is afflicted with Klinefelter Syndrome. This is a genetic condition where the child's chromosomal profile is XXY, rather than XY. This leads to those afflicted developing feminine secondary sexual characteristics in puberty. Specifically, feminine breasts (as opposed to moobs from obesity) and wider hips. Psychology has nothing to do with this, it is a genetic condition that has nothing to do with 'feelings'. And it's only one of dozens of naturally occurring genetic expressions that lead to intersex development. Therefore, transsexualism is a valid condition that can sometimes have a psychological foundation.

"If we operate on the assumption that a theory is fact"

Couple things.

First: A scientific theory IS fact. Rather, it is a body of facts obedient to specific laws within a given field.

Science doesn't prove certainties, only high probabilities, and a theory is the HIGHEST order of probability that is possible to prove within the realm of rational inquiry. You cannot get any closer to truth than the bedrock nigh-certainty of a Scientific Theory.

Secondly, science is not a Democracy. It is not there to hear "all sides" of an issue and let the people decide what's true through popular consensus, and even if it was, our schools -- where kids are first learning about these things -- are hardly the appropriate avenues to have those kinds of discussions. That's not how science works.

The correct format for introducing any valid competing theory that challenges commonly accepted scientific inquiry is a five-step process:

1) conduct experiments and/or collect data
2) publish scientific papers explaining those experiments/data
3) let that data be scrutinized and those experiments be duplicated and challenged by others (peer-review)
4) If they pass muster and survive harsh scrutiny they get printed up in journals and magazines for laymen
5) After about 20 years of this solid testing, experimentation and exploration backed by evidence and peer-review, the science goes for review to be inserted into high school textbooks.

THEN students can learn about it.

The main thrust of Creationists is to bypass the first four steps and insert Creationism/Intelligent Design doctrine directly into school textbooks now. Today. At once. This is not only wrong and dangerous, it is bordering on criminal.

I hope I'm not hairsplitting but my understanding of the standard model is that is describes protons, neutrons, electrons, quarks and how they interact ie how the world actually works. But it's just a theory and it's incomplete so according to this jackoff teaching it is off the table.

Yes, he may be trying to eliminate evolution from the curriculum, but the unintended consequence is he is eliminating chemistry itself.

Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King were deeply religious people. Were they stupid?

Besides that, one of the key principles of science is 'showing your work' so that others can do their own research and come to the same conclusions or offer a different solution.

It's not about convincing the fundies. It's about providing reasonable people with frameworks to counter the fundies.
