Putting dumb causes aside, the man was arrested for willfully choosing to free-climb a building without safety equipment, on the grounds that because he had no safety team, he could have made a mess should he have overestimated his ability.

We typically interpret "nanny state" to mean excessive video surveillance, but it seems like this is also a very good interpretation.

If some dumbshiat wants to climb a tower, well, that's fine, that's on him. Charge him with trespassing and carry on.

This jackass scaled the Devon tower in OKC last year.  When he did that at first I was like cool climbing a skyscraper with no fall protection, climbing gear, etc., then they put out there his reasoning and it went from being cool to gtfoh with that crap. Same folks all concerned about a fetus in the womb sure seem to lose interest once the kid is born.

I'd have been happy to see him left alone and splat. The reality is if that had happened, there would be lawsuits that the building owner didn't do enough to prevent him from being able to do this or didn't try to stop him. And he'd probably win.

Hey, I've been up in the roof of that building. Had a buddy who worked security there and got me the grand tour one Saturday. My visit did not result in a police presence, though.
