I can't be the only one predicting that in less than a decade he will slide off the deep end completely and go weeks at a time not seeing another person in a boarded-window penthouse among hundreds of jars of his own pee, right?

Careful, no one is going to tolerate you speaking of Sen Rodgers (R-WI) in that manner.

His whole schtick is about as original as a 21 year old's HST phase. Except he's a 40 year old.

Rodgers said the retreat will be alone in the confines of a small house in an undisclosed location. He said meals are delivered, but otherwise there is no other contact with the outside world. However, he said he could leave at any point during the stay if he chose to do so.

Big deal. I did that for a year not so long ago.

He's the worst intellectual output of a question authority / counter culture upbringing - only possible if everything has always gone your way and everyone praises you. He's not dumb and actually puts a lot of time and effort into "self improvement" but he has no idea how to evaluate the quality of the advice he's getting and he's already dismissed all legitimate sources so he ends up in very screwed up conclusions. I feel bad for him but he should shut his goddamn mouth.

Well put. It has a name: critical thinking. He don't have it. So he ends up like another famous northern Californian:

I love the fact that he felt the need to mention "However, he said he could leave at any point during the stay if he chose to do so." Yeap, totally doesn't sound like Stockholm Syndrome...

No, no....we want to get the draft picks from trading him first, thenthrow away the key.

True. He's doing a masterful job of getting me to hate him. I was at his 1st start after Brent left. He got booed right up till he uncorked a few bombs and was able to run for yards.

Sportrac has Gren Bay taking a $100 million cap hit to cut or trade him this year: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/green-bay-packers/aaron-rodgers-3745/

How could he possibly be traded with that kind of dead money hit?

Even if they figure out the cap hit, how many teams are really interested in a 40 year old QB with clearly declining skills and $150 million in guaranteed money coming his way and a recent history of selfish, team-harming behavior and off-field distractions? Maybe a 2nd and a later pick? They definitely aren't getting a return like what Russell Wilson garnered. I doubt they will get a return like Detroit got for Stafford just because of the age and contract situations.

Well, look, I've made it clear that I'm no Rodgers fan, but this feels a bit over-the-top.  By all accounts, he's a great teammate and locker-room presence and even if he had declining skills that weren't directly related to his broken thumb and a mostly rookie receiving corps, a declining Rodgers is still better than half the quarterbacks starting in the league.  If you don't think there are at least a few teams that wouldn't jump at the chance to play him for even just two seasons, I think you're letting his public persona turn you off to the football facts.
So to me, the biggest obstacle to trading him would be him committing to play and then having conditional picks added to the pot dependent on if he plays a second season or not.  Contract-wise, he has already acknowledged he will likely need to restructure/re-work a contract if he gets traded (or even if he stays) and, I'm too lazy to look this up right now, but I think for the Packers if they make the trade after June 1st, it is doable from a salary cap dead money perspective.

Okay, assume he does have a bounce-back year and becomes as you have suggested an average NFL starting QB. Based on QBR, that's comparable to Derek Carr or Marcus Mariota or Justin Fields or Jimmy Garappolo. No one is trading away a 1st round pick for a 40 year old who might be as good as Derek Carr.

Rodgers isn't going to give up any of his guaranteed money no matter what renegotiation they do.

There's always some team dumb enough. Also I think there were articles stating the Packers would eat half his guaranteed salary if they traded him so its a more manageable cap hit for both sides. Andrew Brandt has done a few interviews/tweet threads on how Rodgers contract works and how GB can trade him. I'm thinking GB hopes in one of his altered states he says something dumb so they can void it or at least remove the guarantee part. Dont say its impossible. Pat and the boys will get him talking next tuesday after his darkness retreat.
