(Metal Injection)   Producer Sterling Winfield is astounded that Pantera fans are complaining about Zakk Wylde because he doesn't sound like Dimebag Darrell. Also, that this is an obvious cash grab over the Abbott brothers dead bodies   (metalinjection.net) divider line

The Abbott estate supports the tour.  Dunno what to tell you.  Go buy some gas station roses and record a tiktok of yourself crying at their tombstone?

Is Zakk Wylde not a big enough Nazi for the fans?

Who's pissed about zakk wylde? He's great.

it's phil who long ago said and did too many questionable things for me to give even 10 dollars for a concert ticket, and thats coming from someone who still thinks cowboys from hell, and the first down album were instant classics.   I would love to mosh out and have fun hearing those songs live, but not to fill his pockets at the expense of my personal integrity.

He's improving from show to show but have they never heard Zakk Wylde play before?  It's exactly what I expected it to sound like ever since his name was bandied about after Dime got shot.   What we should really be talking about is how much of a destroyer Benante is.

Wait, the opposite of that.

What about Traveling Wilburys fans who think Tom Petty doesn't sound enough like Bob Dylan?

Or all the Milli Vanilli fans who don't like the one who sounds like they're lipsyncing?

White white wine, you make Phil feel so fine
You keep him sieg heiling all of the time

Or when George Harrison switched tambourine players between albums. Like, did everyone expect Sambor Rakoshia to sound like Rakosh Sambori?

You're goddam right. Cowboys was an instant hit for me too. They were great for that time period but it doesn't surprise me much that a lot of the people who liked thrash turned out to be assholes. While I like the tunes and a little bit of the attitude, some of them dudes took the mosh too far and outside of the pit.

Because I'm replying to a farkied Maiden fan I would also like to say, isn't it funny how quaint the metal from back then sounds now? I mean, Kill 'em all, Powerslave, Killing is my Business, South of Heaven all sounded beyond heavy at the time. Now they're almost classic rock.

How is this a cash grab? Does somebody not know?

Because some "true fans" are about as irrational as the skidmark who shot Darrell.

Nah. Can't forgive Phil for his white power bullshiat. Further down the list is Zakk. Helluva guitar player, problem is he knows it and has come off as an arrogant punk more than once.

You want to know what's on my mind right now?  It ain't the guitarist in the band.  It's the dumb nazi on the stage.

Don't know that i necessarily agree across the board because when i think classic rock, i think of boston, kansas, the kinds of things my dad would listen to when i was a kid 30 years ago.  now... to me, it's classic rock because i've heard it all so many times that it just feels like a warm blanket (a warm, killer blanket in hell) to listen to reign in blood.

Maiden though, absolutely.  Maiden is the classic rock that my elders avoided because of the album covers, but if they would have listened they would have LOVED every moment of it.  Same thing with priest; now there's a band who i consider total classic rock.

What stands out to me in that 84-92 thrash scene was the attitude.  i wasn't old enough at the time, but there were a lot of really intense bands that were fighting back from all the glam elements and with their music, showing that they didn't need some kind of spectacle to their look and sound;  just 200bpm, fast and aggressive, seriously talented musicians and with in many cases, some really insightful lyrics...  if you come out to the show, you're going to get bruised but you're going to let it all out of your system and have fun.

Thats what drew me in and i'm so glad I got to experience so many of those bands even though they were in their late 30's/early 40's by the time I started going to shows.

it's a 'cash grab' because if they really cared about art, they would be playing to 11 people every two months - those 11 people being the truly dedicated deserving fans

a cash grab is another term for employment opportunity.  these guys are musicians taking paying gigs - you know, selling out.  not making an honest buck by creating spreadsheets or B2B e-commerce solutions for today's dynamic global online marketplace.

So is Aretha Franklin, but I might've raised an eyebrow if she took over for Ian Gillan in Deep Purple...

...actually scratch that. That would've been amazing. Forget this analogy.
