All trash must be bagged or you get fined.
The trash can lid must be closed or you get fined.

The Corts say they even called the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, but were told this is a civil matter.

Funny how police get to randomly decide what is a "civil matter." People walk onto your property, uninvited, to steal personal property, and it's a roll of the dice as to whether police consider that to be a crime.

Wow, around here when it's Bill pickup, it's very specific. To begin with, it's twice a year on set dates, you don't schedule it. Also it has to be right on the curb, or in the street. They ain't putting forth any extra effort. As a matter of fact, even though they tells to separate out yard waste and stuff, the same front end loader scrapes it off the street and dumps it in the same dump truck.

As a kid, I remember someone calling into a radio advice show asking if he could sue his garbage company.
He was using a large Shop-Vac™ canister as a trash bin and they took the entire thing.

Back in the day when you had non city owned garbage cans, it was impossible to throw away a garbage can.

You can't schlep it to the nearest dumpster?

So the company goes the extra mile, gives you your money's worth, and you complain? Typical. This is why companies don't listen to customer feedback anymore.

This reminds me of that farking tree service company that got a request to trim a palm tree back from a house.

So they came to my house for some reason.  And lopped a section of my mango tree off.  Which is not a palm tree, by the way.  Doesn't look remotely like a palm tree, for the record.

Fark now I need another shot of Hennessy.

... I even have palm trees mind you!  More than a dozen of them.  They didn't trim those though.

Whoa there. Steal? Stealing requires intent. The homeowners entered into a contract with a company in the business of removing things from people's yards. Things were removed from their yard. You should rethink your stance on this, we should all be happy when the police defer from offering their special brand of help in a situation. I see the incident as more of a commentary on the quality of their lawn furniture.

The Corts said the cost to replace everything that was thrown away was about $915. Investigator Shannon Behnken sent invoices for each item to Waste Connections.

I don't know if you're familiar with who runs that business but I assure you it's not the Boy Scouts

This is the first thing I thought of. You know Ricky had a pretty good scam going. I am pretty sure he did this with lawn furniture and then worked up to grills and barbecues. Trevor took the rap for those antics.

The Trailer Park Boys have taken all the trailer park wisdom and legend from all of North America and acted it out and documented it with that odd Canadian je ne sais quoi. Art imitates life imitates art.

There's like a three step check. Is a cop or a cop's girlfriend or son involved? Is it a business or a civilian?

For example, if I buy a sofa in the store and the never deliver it, it's a civil matter.

If I buy a sofa and they invoice me, and I don't pay it, it's a crime.

Only gets complicated if a cop buys a sofa and doesn't pay for it from a furniture store run by a cop.

It's Florida, you should be able to shoot them yourself. Don't interfere with a cop's nap!

My recycling bin disappeared on pickup day last month. I reported it to waste disposal thinking there might be some charge associated with replacing. There was so little push-back that I'm thinking that it's not uncommon for those to end up in the truck because the mechanical arm doesn't have a good grip.

When I saw them live, they set up a griddle on stage and sold cheeseburgers to the audience.   During their show.   It was awesome.

Around here we had free dumpsters which pretty much anybody could dump almost anything. Catch is you have to be a city resident. I've bagged umbrellas, Woodstove parts, a 2500 watt generator, two wheelbarrows, bbq parts, socket sets, boxes of wrenches, bicycles, literally everything under the sun. Out of Towner's we're using the place too much, so the trash company hired...trash Nazis. No more one man's trash, another man's treasure. The result is that lots more garbage gets dumped on the forest...

No random decision or roll of the dice in this one - it was clearly not a crime.

My car was towed because the registration sticker wasn't up to date, and the apartment complex had apparently told them to tow anything that wasn't 100%.

I went to the apartment manager and chewed them out. It's true that the registration hadn't been renewed, but there may be legit reasons why I didn't do it. The car wasn't a junker, or sitting on flat tires. I said if it was going to be towed, someone had better come to my apartment first and let me know.

Went back to my apartment and started Googling municipal codes. There's a sign at the main entrance that warned people cars not "in compliance" could be towed, but I found a city ordinance that said every entrance had to display the warning, and one entrance (the closest to my apartment) didn't have it.

Called the cops and reported my car as stolen, but they also said it was a civil matter.

Went back to the apartment manager and showed him the city ordinance, and demanded that my car be returned before the end of the day. It was. The apartment complex put up the required sign 2 days later.
