Corvettes are the Frank Stallone of Italian stallions

Shouldn't a hood engine already be broken in?

They have to bolt in the oil filter to keep it from vibrating off.

Wat?

Well, sir, I think I found your problem. You bought a Corvette.

Corvettes have always been garbage.

I love fast cars, but it's stupid to spend money on performance you can't use. There's not even bragging rights with a Corvette, where I live the valets will be parking it with the minivans. Buy a proper track car that suits your ability, flip it for a better one when you get better. As a bonus, consumables will be far cheaper. Remember, If you need the computer to drive it, it's either too fast or you're too slow.

How much do you want to bet that the owner was doing brake stands, donuts, and burnouts on the new engine?

Bslim: Corvettes have always been garbage.

Maybe true up until the C7, but now they are tops in their performance class.

While these Vettes can race road courses now, most people use them for drag racing.

Remember, If you need the computer to drive it, it's either too fast or you're too slow.

This is a pretty stupid statement, for a whole lot of reasons.

I have a Seven replica, which tells you where I stand on electronic driving aids in a fun car.

Even the modern Caterham uses computers. Most cars now have so much power that you need a computer to help you manage it, from computers that do fuel management/delivery to traction control. Professional race cars also have these systems (outside NASCAR).

I agree that there is a lot of skill necessary in racing, but it really depends on the kind of racing you are doing, and at what class.

It wasn't burning, so the analogy fails.

I'm assuming most folks buying these new aren't buying them to race in a qualifying class. If they are, good on them. Most new Corvettes seem to get bought by bench racers, luckily for actual racers.

Oh no! An insanely complicated machine with a failure rate in the fractions of a percent! How negligent of GM!

Yeah, if not a decade or two longer; EFI has been in most cars since the late 80's, because carbs are a biatch to maintain, work on, and became virtually useless in the age of ethanol additive fuels due to gummy build up after a couple years. Post 1996 all cars needed to be ODB II compatible.

Additionally, for racing it is nice to have computers because you can set things like timing curves, fuel pressure, or even tweak suspension from a laptop. You can also diagnose your machine with the same tool.

Just because I found this out recently, electric cars do not have to be ODB compliant, and most don't even have the connector.

Insurance companies with their little device to track your driving, it's not an option for electrics, so they offer an app you install on your phone. I was already opposed too them having my car data and GPS, but was curious what discount I could get. But having an app on my phone with GPS on constantly sending them Lord knows what data they want to harvest? And having to launch it to mark that I'm not driving every time I'm in a vehicle but not driving? Absolutely, positively, never.

Rich people breaking expensive toys? Sounds like chickens coming home to roost.

Yeah, good luck remembering to do that every time.

I did the program with Progressive where you stick the device in the ODBII slot, and for how long you have to drive with it, the discount isn't really worth it. You need at least a month of driving, and it measures "hard stops" and "hard accel" as negatives, thing is - I drive a sports car. I have all slotted disc brakes and composite brakes, which stop quickly and hard. It was extremely difficult to keep it from beeping at me when I came to a stop.

Eh, I'll take the $ for a Z06 (gotta know there's a giant markup) then go for an Emira and a great daily driver. At least the Emira's using a reliable powertrain.
