The RW talking point I heard yesterday was, "Why did they shoot the payload and not just pop the balloon?"

My immediate reply (not exactly sure if I'm correct or not) was that missles lock on targets of significance, so the sidewinder wasn't just going to "miss" the payload a pop the balloon and I'm not sure they could do that even if they wanted to.

FTA:The silliness and vapidity of Marco Rubio and his colleagues were certainly exposed by the balloon. They absolutely demonstrated a lack of capacity to measure up in a real crisis.

THIS! We got a wake up call and got off light with COVID. Wait till the nation faces another crisis with the next echelon of idiots in charge. They may not make trump look smart but they don't make him look any stupider, either. It is a testament to how good America has had it for so long that we are ok with people like Rubio, Boebert, MTG, et al in positions to make decisions should something really terrible happen.

The segment was coming to an end and Rubio was regurgitating the same talking points everyone else had been using all week.  Biden didn't tell the public, dereliction of duty etc etc.  Karl waited for him to finish, pointed out the same thing happened three times while Trump was in office and nobody told the public anything back then and ended the segment.

Nothing aggressive was needed.  He just let the guy say something misleading and then pointed out it was misleading.  Over on CNN there was an explanation of what the Biden administration had said and done followed by the usual "but republicans have been vocal in their criticism" with no effort fact check the criticism.
