Well, in a world where we have security protocols, you extract what to can from them, terminate them, and move up the ladder, continuing until you have aborted future issues.
A few dead spies can save millions of lives.

From TFA:  "At the time of the insurrection, the three men were friends and were all assigned to the Marine Corps Information Operations Center at Quantico, Virginia, about 30 miles south of Washington. The center is involved in psychological warfare training and development for the Marines, among other functions."

So we're they the test subjects?

The reassignments raise serious new questions about the ability of both the military and the U.S. intelligence community to identify right-wing extremists in their midst.

Start with "all of the above" and go from there.

But after The Intercept independently discovered that all three Marines had been given new intelligence assignments following the insurrection, the Corps confirmed that they were all transferred to new roles after January 6, 2021, and provided information about their assignments at the time of the insurrection. Abate and Hellonen also received promotions in rank following the Capitol riot, according to the Corps.

"Good job almost overthrowing the US Government, we think you did a good enough job that we're promoting you! But next time make sure you overthrow the government, do that and we'll make you a colonel!"

Well, duh.

This country needs to rip the bandaid off, and soon.  Taxonomy is important - LABEL THESE ACTS AS TERRORISM, HIGH TREASON.  No kiddie gloves.  Go after the leaders, the enablers, the bankrollers; and don't stop until the prisons are literally full.

Eeyores are wrong because something is going to happen, but the pollyannas are wrong because what's going to happen is not going to be the rule of law holding people accountable. No, what's going to happen is the US version of the Three Year's War and in the end a lot of fascists are gonna get it right in the neck.

Interesting analogy.  I don't think it's going go as well as you do.  I think the results are going to be closer to the Spanish Civil War, only with a nation far more interested in expanding both North and South.

You think pointing out the problem of fascists not being held accountable for their crimes is running interference for those fascists?! You know, no matter what we type in here, the people who carry the handcuffs and judge them guilty and put them in jail, aren't impeded from doing their jobs, they just need to have the willingness to do their jobs.

Well, apparently they've been monitoring him for about a year, and now his security clearance has come up for renewal. So now he's being asked questions. Idk what happens from here, but my guess is that there might be issues with that security clearance on top of that federal indictment.

They weren't charged until last month, long after they were transferred to the sensitive positions. Article states all three had training and experience in that area, so they likely already had clearances and jobs in intelligence.  The outrage here should be that it took two years to hold them accountable, not some made-up shiat that they were knowingly put into sensitive positions while having pending felony charges.

They were kept and moved around through different sensitive positions after admitting to trying to overthrow the government to their superiors.
This article isn't an indictment on them, it is an indictment on the superiors who thought trying to overthrow the government was fine.

Well I use the Three Years War analogy because unlike the US civil war, the Three Years war was a genuine battle between liberal and conservative ideas on the "social direction" of Mexico, with the Liberals dominating the coasts and the conservatives taking vast rural areas. And yes, the conservative strategy hinged largely on foreign support, which seems about right.

Just like history shows us, this consistent double standard for conservative anti-government forces will only embolden them and lead to war. And the conservatives will lose- Sure they have "God" on their side and a lot of monied interests, they simply don't have the numbers among the populace or enough leaders in the military. But just like the three years war, our economy will be completely wrecked.

This is the crux of the whole issue, and the particularly the scary part to me.

Parts of the government, from individual officials, to whole alphabet agencies, are pretty openly choosing a side, and the response that we can see is almost nonexistent. Like on a smaller scale the Capitol police openly had dudes wishing the Jan 6th attack had worked, and biatched out their own who was awarded a medal for getting hurt trying to stop it. On the wider scale ICE is basically a hostile goon squad with drones that we have the privilege of paying for who have basically already gone rogue when anyone who isn't a Republican is in charge.

It doesn't seem like there's a plan for this, which seems weird because there's a lot of people in the government who will be in the crosshairs at this rate and have good reason to not let shiat go crazy.
