Agreed. My nephew and a niece both followed Mrs. dahnkster and I into critical care nursing. She has home, family and mortgage and is in management...She's gonna do whatever is asked of her.

He is young, handsome and single. He says corporations are no longer providing pension plans. He says he will sign highest paid contracts like a whore. He is making bank.   Even after 34 years of work, he's doubling my salary on some assignments. They are BEGGING wife and I to come back full time and throwing offers and signing bonuses at us that do make it tempting.  (We both keep our RN licenses active and do CEU's every year.

Never had kids. Most of my career was ER in New Orleans taking care of poorest of the poor. I worked almost exclusively in trauma (7p-7a) for 20+ years. I have a pension from Louisiana but likely wont see my social security even though I worked MORE than enough quarters as Louisiana is a WEP state. Not having kids allowed me to save and invest. Even as a young idiot bartender/server, I had the foresight to buy Florida property when prices were ridiculously low. I put renters in to pay my mortgages and held onto everything. I am lucky/blessed. When i met Mrs dahnkster, she had been raised in a large family where the importance of education and investing were emphasized. She taught me lessons her dad had instilled in her.

I am helping (some) of my nephews and nieces, (and a godchild) with home-ownership and investment planning. We have looked into moving to Australia if/when America becomes a fascist shiathole. We care for elderly relatives that have dementia and Alzheimer's.
We hope to travel extensively as long as our health permits.

AI.

There's already evidence of ai being better than humans at diagnosing illness. Watson has been doing it for years. Robotic surgery already exists. Wearable health monitoring tech even takes care of the data collection automatically.

There's still issues to work out like deliberate deception for pill seeking or psych reasons, privacy concerns, ethical considerations etc. But it's clear AI is the future of medicine and will be replacing a whole lot of docs and nurses.

My wife had a double mastectomy and one of the skin grafts was failing.  They put her in ICU for two weeks and had leeches on her graft to get the blood circulating.  She was the talk of the hospital with doctors and nurses asking her if they can see them.  Her graft turned dark purple, eventually failed, and they had to do another skin graft.  After five surgeries, she's still a mess.

That was a self-reported Facebook survey - the survey was allocated randomly but the demographic information was self-reported. To quote one of the authors,

Right now, nurses are making tons. If you have aBS in nursing and an RN, you can write your own ticket. There's a shortage everywhere.  There already was, then COVID hit. It's a crisis now.

The worst part is, we can't make more nurses fast enough. Who's going to turn down money like that to take an $80K first-year Nursing Instructor job?

I know that sounded like a lot of woo and probably was, but habitually eating healthy food instead of garbage actually does wonders for your general health and makes it easier to recover from anything that happens to you.

oh yes, because there's a simple consensus on what constitutes "healthy food" vs. "garbage food", and that consensus rarely changes.  why didn't I think of that?!?!
