If you look at the hateful, pig-ignorance of most Xtians, don't question what kind of benevolent, loving god would welcome them into His Kingdom, and at least consider worshipping Lord Natas, you aren't paying attention.

I wasn't fan of Pfizer or Sam Smith before, but I'll be popping blue boner pills and listen to navel-gazing, English prog rock this weekend in support.

First off, Satan is the good guy in their book.

I got a good laugh last year when Trump said Biden's speech had red lights, like the Devil! I guess I'm just a godless heathen who associated red lights with something else.

The Devil does not wear horns and a tail. The Devil appears to us as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14), one who's going to save us all from vaguely-defined all-powerful enemies that are everywhere and unidentifiable.

I played Basic, Expert, Companion, Master, and Immortals rules.  One of my friends had AD&D 2.0 books, but playing with him, we'd take an hour to make 1 character, and almost a full minute to kill it.

its funny because when you learn how lyrics written by, oh say black sabbath back in the day, tended to bemoan the mental breakdowns folks have sometimes, even some dudes in the band...yeah, the mind can take you to some very dark places.  sometimes one might think it hellish and even write about some pretty scary experiences in the best way they have to communicate - and to process - and to farking get relief...if POSSIBLE.  yeah, satan is moving bro...be very afraid...a$$holes.

'"If as a Christian, you think we are reaching when we talk about the dominance and normalization of Satan worship in pop music, you need discernment," wrote Christian life coach Solomon Buchi.'

This coming from the religious group that was bowing down to a golden statue of Donald Trump at presidential political rallies.

It's darkly ironic to me that the people who believe most strongly in demons and devils and witchcraft are also absolutely terrified of it.  That they invoke rituals and otherworldly beings to save them from thinking about why  bad things happen or for assistance in such banal things as to help their sportsball team or deliver them a winning lottery ticket or to keep that cop from noticing they're doing 20 over in an active school zone is just additional highly magnetic icing on the cake.

I feel bad for people who grew up with hyper-religious parents.

My dad turned me on to Black Sabbath et al. and even if he wasn't fond of the stuff I would listen to later, he recognized where it came from.

And D&D meant I was socializing with a peer group that didn't involve drugs (at first) so I might not turn out like my older brother.

It's weird to me that we allow religious people walk free among us.  They have severe mental problems and delusions.  They need to be institutionalized.

Hell, I started playing in 3.0, and in 4.0, the game was revamped as to be unrecognizable.

4.0 was a move away from an RPG game with strategy elements toward a strategy game with RPG elements, borrowing heavily from MMOs to define party roles. D&D originally evolved from a tabletop wargame called Chainmail so 4.0 went back toward its roots.

It flopped because players didn't want a tabletop MMO; they wanted a fantasy RPG. D&D 5 is closer to what you remember.

I read a book review in The Economist once about a book whose central thesis was that the trappings and traditions of the Catholic Church are so crazy because back in the day the church was the only vocation available to schizophrenics who saw demons and talked to God.  This idea has never left me.

4.0 was originally developed for online play (I knew someone who was working on the online component before it got cancelled), which is why the ruleset was more tabletop wargamey.

Yeah, if these "Christians" took the energy that they spend on persecuting "sinners", laughing at people who are different or wishing death on their enemies and spent a fraction on doing what Jesus told them to do (like helping the poor, acting and speaking with kindness, living humbly, and loving their enemies), I might view them as something other than unironic satanists.

Fortunately, I did not fall for the money grab that was AD&D 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th edition. I have first edition and I have modified it to correct any issues that came up. The game is about using your imagination and so far, each successive version has removed more and more of that. I personally love the conversation that I once had with someone who was trying to convince me that the new version was better. He went on and on about schools of magic where one could get spells with  certain theme, or school. I asked him why didn't he just learn the spells that applied to the theme that he wanted so that he had his 'fire wizard' or whatever it was. Just pick the fire based spells. I got this blank look in return.

You think  there would have been such an incredibly massive uproar when Hasbro/WotC tried to pulla fast-one yoink if there wasn't a significant # of player-base on hand, including the young generation?

For a minute conservatives had a good thing going by pretending they were laid back free-thinkers who just wanted cancel culture weirdos to stop hassling everybody. But as soon as that movement took off they revealed they want to ban The Little Prince because the Prince is disrespectful to authority, want mandatory genital inspections of schoolchildren, and think all pop music is Satanic.
