They may convert some of these people into liberals yet.

Nah, who am I kidding. They'd vote for the same idiots and go through it all again.

Tim Dorsey is not meant to be instructional. Can't the Fed do something about Boss Hogg et al?

My father-in-law and his wife moved down there. I doubt the FIL cares about all the right-wingers as his family is all right wing. But his wife is a democrat and he seems to agree with her most of the time. They came to visit and both times I came home from work when they were visiting they were watching CNN during their increasingly rare liberal slant coverage of what was going on.

I would love to hear a couple of common conversations with neighbors when they get in to politics. Do they shut up because they know they're outnumbered? Or do they push back?

"socialist ideology necessitates a concentration of power that has time and time again collapsed into Communist regimes, totalitarian rule, and brutal dictatorships."

House socialism resolution. Passed by the people that are perfectly happy with power being concentrated in the hands of their patrons.

I wish some smarmy asshole would say "I'm bigger than you, I could squash you" to me.  So I could respond with "you're tiny and I'm 260, I could suffocate you by sitting on you".  So they can either find a more creative way to threaten me, or stare at me for a moment and walk away.

Who could have possibly predicted that an expensive community based around retirement would be a front for an obscenely rich family to get even richer.....

When other states are sending their old people to Florida, they're not sending their best. They're sending the old, the cantankerous. The crotchety. Some of whom I assume are good people.

I would suggest not getting into a dick measuring contest.

However....I'd also point out that the Daisy model 880 is a pump pneumatic BB gun with an effective range of 291 yards for $60.

A friend's mom lives in the Villages and loves everything about it except for the politics - she's fairly liberal. She says she enjoys the company of her neighbors but never, ever discusses politics. Apparently, the neighbors she chooses to interact with are the ones who will respect her boundaries in this regard. She doesn't bring the subject up, and if someone else does she excuses herself. I wouldn't want to live that way, but it seems to work for her.

Back in the courtroom, (Judge Anthony) Tatti decided to add 200 hours of community service to Miller's sentence, too, but he had a problem: How to punish a man with forced service who gives the bulk of his time in service to the community already? The judge's solution: On top of going above the sentencing recommendation to give him 36 months of probation, Tatti ordered him to perform his community service at the local landfill.

... that there is not a bodacious Tatti

I sidestep most political conversations out in the world. Most of them instigated by my customers. Occasionally I can tell the person is speaking in good faith and maybe I'll entertain them. But I have two strategies for idiots on either side. I just mean the people that want to be on that team, but haven't really thought about it much further than that.

Republicans: Ignore the comment, walk away, change the subject
Democrats: Agree with their overall point, but when they go deeper than I know their intelligence allows, refer to my strategy with Republicans.

2023-02-06 11:35:10 PM

If I were a man in my mid seventies with health conditions and you took everything from me, I suppose I might be thinking that I had nothing to lose and persue "alternative" forms of justice.

Courts and laws exist to provide for safe forms of justice. If you take legal protections away from people through corruption than you're no longer entitled to those same legal protections yourself.

So I guess in Florida a legislator can work for a private company, pass a law that benefits said company, and then get a huge raise from that company. And I'm sure it's all completely legal.

I guess I should commend them for removing the pretense of bribing politicians through PAC donations or the effort of having a "blind" trust buy stock in the companies your legislation benefits.

So you've never spoken to an incel online? Because this is a standard-issue turn of phrase at this point among a particularly insecure corner of the internet.
