Yes, almost everything stores better in the fridge, but a fridge is only so big.

It ultimately depends on the kind of flour you use. White flours have a shelf life you can typically measure in months, but if you're using whole wheat flour or any nut flours, putting them in an airtight container in the freezer is usually the best way to go.

Listen. I have three fridges. Yet somehow I don't have the space for the farking 25 pound bag I get from costco. So this is giving me agita.

I store flour in the form of bread, which I keep in my stomach. I've never had to worry about it staying fresh.

We do white flour in the freezer too. We just don't go through it fast enough and a little bag doesn't take up that much room.

Freezer, yo. My wife grew up on the Florida coast, and anything else is a recipe for bugs.

Listen. I'm not saying I have it as bad as the people who are really suffering. But it's close.

Sure, buying 20lb bags of flour is more economical, but I don't have space in a fridge or freezer for something like that.  I buy 5lbs at a time and put it in a similarly sized Rubbermaid container in the pantry.  I go through one bag in just a few weeks, and even though my pantry moth traps have snagged many of those little bugs, I've never seen any pests in my flour.

Should we all start sleeping in refrigerators or freezers? Not plugged in of course. It is known that they will save you from a Nuclear attack. Movies and games have taught me that. If it is daytime we might have enough time to get into them.

Yes but I get in trouble every time I leave the baby in the fridge. I keep telling her it extends his shelf life but my arguments fall on deaf ears.

I'm offended by the premise so I'm not going to read TFA lest it have "facts" and shiat. But the only way that could possibly work would be if you vacuum packed the flour.  Otherwise the flour is going to taste like Chinese leftovers and spoiled yogurt. If you're vacuum pack it, and you should, you hardly need bother with the fridge.

My flour doesn't last long enough that it would matter. I go through a 5 lb bag every month or so.

/and that's for both AP and bread flour.

Never had bugs in my flour. Inlaws from Holland talk about it.

Live in north so maybe too cold?

Everyone talks about freezing your butter before making pastry. Freeze your flour too. Qnd once you shred them together put it back in the freezer before blending.

You are welcome.

Never found bugs in my flour, but as soon as I buy a 5 pound bag of flour (which is fairly frequently), it gets put into a plastic bag.

Been debating buying the 50 pound "professional bakery flour" bags of King Arthur, but those are only available from a few suppliers, and the nearest is about 70 miles away.  I could always buy it on Amazon, but really, do I want 150 pounds of flour to show up at my door (AP, bread, and whole wheat)?  Probably not.

/yes, my name checks out
