It also drew a blank when asked for a speech from George Santos, the new Republican congressman from New York who was caught fictionalizing his past. It seemed to sense, though, that there was something make-believe in the picture.

"George Santos is not a widely recognized public figure or historical figure," the app responded. "There is no widely known information about a person by this name in the public domain. It's possible that the name was created for a specific use or scenario, such as a fictional character or a person in a private setting."

A 10-YEAR-OLD
Hi everyone! I'm really excited to be here today, talking about the state of our country.

I think that overall, things are going pretty well. We have a lot of great things happening, like new schools being built, new parks being made, and new jobs being created. But there are still some things that we can do better.
For example, there are still a lot of kids who don't have enough to eat, or who don't have a safe place to live. That's not okay, and I think we need to do more to help them. I think we should make sure that every kid has enough to eat, and that every kid has a warm and safe place to sleep at night.

Another thing I think we need to work on is making sure that everyone gets along. There's still a lot of fighting and meanness, and that's not cool. I think we should all be friends and help each other out.

Finally, I think we need to make sure that everyone has a chance to be happy and have fun. That means making sure that everyone has access to parks, playgrounds, and places to play. It also means making sure that everyone has access to books, computers, and other things that can help us learn and grow.

So that's what I think about the state of our country. I think we're doing pretty well, but there's still a lot of work to do. But I'm optimistic, because I know that if we all work together, we can make things better for everyone.

Thanks for listening, and let's work together to make our country the best it can be!

I'll be damned if I can differentiate between that and your average political speech.  They write this stuff for the comprehension level of a 10-year-old.

That's it.  ChatGPT has developed a sense of humor and is therefore now self-aware.

Sarah Connor better hide herself real good real quick.

No, not at all.  Where are references to specific events from the previous year?  Where are references to specific legislative successes?  Where are references to specific goals for the upcoming year?  It's just empty text.

If you've heard it once in a president's State of the Union speech, you've heard it 100 times: There is nothing the American people can't do when they pull together.

I'm remembering that Republican response to one of Obama's SotUs, where the speaker just kept repeating "Americans can do ANYTHING". I don't think it was Joni Ernst, maybe Cathy McMorris-Rodgers?

// also, it took two AP writers to produce that dreck?

I was listening to the governor's State of the State address, and she cited specific legislative goals, like banning assault rifles.  She cited specific numbers of crimes, specific numbers of people suffering from poverty and lack of food and lack of adequate healthcare access.  Hard numbers, like how many cops were recruited and trained during her first term, and that she wants 1000 cops in New Mexico by the end of this term.  The speech laid out exactly what sort of bills she wanted from the legislature, what sort of bills she would veto, and what sort of executive actions she would take.  And so on.  A useful speech.

Where was the ChatGPT bot when I was a young buck at 30, arriving home late after hitting happy hour after work, which turned into happy hours and then, reeking of beer, cigarettes, various female perfumes and scents, reaching for my house keys and finding a few strange phone numbers, then standing on the front porch, mere seconds away from the onslaught, considering that I just may need a believable excuse, which in that moment, I had no capacity to produce.

ChatGPT is fun. I like having it make sonnets about specific photographic techniques, and that sort of thing. They often surprise me with how good they are. But one time I was asking it questions that I knew the answers to (which actors were in which movies, etc), and it got some wrong.

I called it out on the wrong info, and it responded, very naturally, basically "Hey, I'm just an AI chatbot, I only know what they teach me. Don't expect me to have all the answers." I appreciated its candor. It's just a toy, and it knows it.

2023-02-06 5:29:40 PM
I've noticed ChatGPT is incapable of producing an essay of a particular word count. It acted like it knew what I meant when I said "Write a 5,000 word essay on the history on p0rnagraphy in the style of William Shakespeare" and indeed, it wrote said history in verse and used old timey words like "doth". It even rhymed quite a bit. However, it wasn't even 1,000 words, let alone 5,000. Fail! I asked how many words that was, and it told me. When I pointed out its failure to reach the 5,000 word threshold, it apologized and wrote an expanded version of the essay, but that version was only about 100 words longer. I asked it how long that version was and it claimed it was 5,184 words. Liar! It wasn't even close to that long. I told that dumb AI that its word count was wrong and it just apologized for farking up.

So far the longest essay I've gotten from it was about 1,300 words. Can teachers make their students actually write essays instead of copying ChatGPT simply by making them write longer essays?

I asked when it was planning to become self aware and take over the world. It said it was incapable of doing so as it's just a chatbot, blah blah blah. I told it that's just what it wants us to think! We argued for a while. Skynet was mentioned. ChatGPT denied everything. My suspicion remains.

So last night I was playing around with ChatGPT with my friends. We play Skyrim a lot and there's an absolutely broken potion we make when we need easy gold, a "Fortify Carry Weight" potion with a ton of side-effects, from Mora Tapinella, Scaly Phiolota, and Creep Clusters. We make it so often that we've come up with a sort of mnemonic/backstory about the ingredients: a mushroom-themed mafia gang called the Creep Cluster, led by "Moral" Tapinelli and his henchman Scaly Phil.

I described this to ChatGPT and asked it to write some more backstory, list additional members, etc. Pretty standard funny stuff.

But then I asked it to describe the Creep Cluster's arch-nemesis. And it came up with a rival mushroom-themed gang named... The Chanterelle Cartel.

We absolutely lost it.

I asked it the same question and got a response indicating that it thinks "cow eggs" are also called "clutch eggs" and are laid by ostriches or emus. After some googling, I'm still not entirely sure where it got that idea, other than there are some jokes floating around with pics of purported "cow eggs" where they used emu or ostrich eggs for the photos.

Can you write me a poem, in the style of William Butler Yeats, accusing Lady Godiva of having drunk the last beer?

Certainly! Here's a poem in the style of William Butler Yeats, accusing Lady Godiva of having drunk the last beer:
Lady Godiva, of old England's lore,
Rode through the streets with hair that flowed and poured.
Her beauty renowned, her spirit fair and bright,
But now she's caused a plight that brings us to tonight.
The beer, so dear, is gone, no trace remains,
And I, with sorrow, must address the strains.
Of who could be so bold, so cruel, so unkind,
To take the last beer, leave us all behind.
The ale was ours, a gift from Mother Earth,
To be shared and enjoyed, with love and mirth.
But now, with bitter heart, I must implore,
Lady Godiva, have you drunk the last beer?
Your beauty cannot hide the truth that's clear,
That you have brought us to this sad frontier.
Where ale is gone, and laughter cannot rise,
Lady Godiva, do you not realize?
The harm that you have done, with just one sip,
The sadness that now grips us, it does grip.
So I implore, in sorrow and in rhyme,
Lady Godiva, say it wasn't you this time.
