I wouldn't the improved replication scores are entirely due to all the retractions from that one jackass who was fudging p-values to get dubious research published.

"Likelier"?  Subby, do you even grammar?

"More likely"

Checks out.  Except for the ones that say people who are of a different race or disagree with me on the role of government are stupid or evil.  Those are totally legit.

Do studies really 'go viral', or are they amplified by shadowy interests seeking to profit from amplification?  Seems like the latter is far more likely.

Just because he's a hack who lost his license, doesn't take away his PHD. He was never a M.D.

Huh. his claim to pre-internet fame was his psychology videos. He had some actually interesting, observant classroom discussions until he went publicly against the Canadian "pronoun" law and the right-wing showered him with attention and the left-wing showered him with derision. He's the prototype (archetype?) for viral pop psychology.

Qualified reports aren't sexy enough to go viral.  The reframed clickbait articles they generate are, as well as the whacky stance items.  So you get people who become 'psychology influencers' peddling content they know will generate growth and traffic.

It's like psychedelic research that declares PTSD comes with a life-long adherence to a medication regime.  Bogus, no matter how many people they convince.

What I love are the peer-reviewed studies documenting what a joke the peer review process is.  I get it, from a journalist's perspective it must be hard to sort the wheat from the chaff.  But some of the headlines you see here on Fark are so clearly bullshiat...

yeah the learning is already out on this one.

We have it on good authority

"don't believe the hype."

that's it, period the end it is that simple.

Is that hype?
Why are you believing it then?

I never thought I would see "Dr. Phil" and "unavailable for comment" in the same sentence.

That makes sense. More outrageous claims generate more outrage.

I blame John Tesh for the proliferation of bullshiat psych studies
