Never trust a list of delis in a town that doesn't have a Jewish deli.
Never trust anyone in a town that doesn't have a Jewish deli.

I'd guess you are quoting something, but to take your sentence at face value, hoagie shops and Jewish delis don't really overlap in Philly.  Philly has plenty of good Jewish delis.  My favorite when I lived there was Hymie's in Bala Cynwyd.

Your arteries harden mostly because of diabetes and smoking. Atherosclerosis.

Most of the entries were located within city limits. You singled out 3 of the 5 or 6 total that were not, out of the 25 shops. Why, it's almost as if Philadelphia magazine caters to the entire region when naming the best hoagie shops in the area.

If you're from Philly, you're from "Philly". Plenty of shops in Philly proper. All sorts of soft boys wanting to front from Coshohocken, Bryn Mawr, K of P, even Wayne. If you're from the burbs, you're from the burbs. C'mon, you should know better.

Of course I'm familiar with city limits gatekeeping and the cultural identity clashes you're talking about.

What it has to do with a sandwich list where about 20 of the 25 entries were inside the city itself, I have no idea.

I once drove from Michigan to Philly just to have a cheesesteak at Dalessandro's, which didn't make the list. I didn't try a hoagie, so I can't vouch for them. The sandwich I did get was absolutely perfect. Can any Philly farkers weigh in on their hoagies? I may have to make another trip.

I've never not been disappointed by a cheesesteak. So much potential in a sandwich but never executed well.

The best Italian sandwiches are about 45 minutes northeast of Philly at Screpesi's in Reading.  The rolls are not baked on site, but just down the street at the ATV bakery and always fresh.  And they don't put vinegar on them, which is an abomination and should be illegal.

I've been going there for over 40 years and the place hasn't changed a bit in all that time.  Which in this case is a good thing.

The ham and cheese is also excellent.  They butter the roll and then slap a generous portion of Mayo on the lettuce.  It's a simple thing, but it makes them so good.

For San Diego Farkers, Giorgino's does a respectable job with cheesesteaks and hoagies
