Hey, this is a Daytime Emmy Spoken Word Grammy!

So, it still counts! Girl's gotta eat.

Well done, Viola Davis.

Also, good headline, subby. Made me LOL.

Good for her, she's a wonderful actor (and other stuff?), but how to get away with murder is still a very stupid show

Why is it EGOT instead of some easier-to-say acronym like TEGO or GETO or GOTE (rhymes with GOAT)? Does the order of the letters matter, as in lower to higher ranking in entertainment hierarchy, with TV being the least legit, then music, then movies, then live theatre?

Maybe....just maybe...they are going alphabetical?

If, in another life, I were to have a band it would have an accordion, bagpipe, banjo, fiddle and a jews harp. Maybe we'd be a Led Zeppelin cover band.

Because that's the order on Phillip Michael Thomas's necklace.

Davis joins Helen Hayes and Rita Moreno as the only people to win both the "Triple Crown"--an Emmy, Oscar, and Tony specifically for acting--and an EGOT.

And Hayes got her Grammy for reading the Bill of Rights, so I'm not gonna crap on Davis' win too hard.

BigMax: Most impressively, the Grammy was the last one...

Why? About a quarter of winners have done so.

Of the now 18 winners, nine got an Emmy last, four got each of Grammy and Tony last, and one got an Oscar last. With the one note that Whoopi got her Tony last, but her Emmy was received earlier in the same award season.

"The Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album has been awarded since 1959."

I'm half way to an EGOT. I don't expect to make it any further.

We can ask George Santos, who coined the phrase when he became the first person to win all four awards. I think Whoopi Goldberg thanked him in one of her acceptance speeches.

It's like hitting for the cycle and getting the single last.  It happens, but it is getting the easiest one last.

Winning a Grammy appears to be a lot easier than willing an Emmy, Oscar or Tony.

The Grammy is for a spoken word album which is also essentially acting.  "Quad Crown?"

IMHO, it would be even more impressive to get industry awards in four completely different categories, e.g. acting, singing, writing and producing as these are not so much overlapping skillsets.  Still, it's a remarkable achievement and well deserved.

I think if you were to examine all the winners of the EGOT, you could find one "undeserving" award for all of them.

And I don't think "real musicians" care about the EGOT.  Her world is not theirs.

Damn, I did not realize this.  How crazy to be both the model for the Oscar statue and go on to actually win one.

You could easily sell a "real musician" on doing a song/score for a movie if you told them they could get an EGOT.

Except for it occuring at the rate one would expect if it were random. Getting an Oscar last would be the notable one.

No one has ever come close to a "perfect" performer's EGOT I don't think. Looking at the list it's mostly composers. And 3 of the four are all versions of acting basically.

And there are already two EGOT recipients whose only Grammy was the same award (under earlier names).

Lin Manuel Miranda is going to be one of those to get the Oscar last since he already has the other three. He has been nominated twice for best song but both times lost out to a song from a Bond movie.

I wonder if they'll do a Hollywood version of Hamilton (as opposed to the filmed stage production on Disney+ right now) and that could nab him opportunities in a few categories.

Like the "got the MVP already" double standards which makes it harder for some more talented soortsballers.

Or like grading on a curve.
