State releases beavers near stream. Beavers build dam. State issues citation to land owner for blocking the stream. State fines land owner for trapping the beavers and moving them.

Back in the 1940s some Argentinians got the idea of starting a fur trade in Tierra del Fuego, so they imported a couple dozen beavers from Canada. The scheme didn't work out so well and the idea was abandoned shortly thereafter.

But with no natural predators the beavers took over the area and basically ate the entire forest, then swam across the strait to the mainland, crossed the border into Chile, and today there are over a hundred thousand of them, they are considered a nuisance, and hunters are told to shoot on site.

The best part is that beavers don't actually like to build dams.

Rather, they hate the sound of running water.

The video of the rescued beaver building a dam out of toys in a hallway says otherwise.

That is what I have heard too.  I like that explanation. It's like OCD.

One would have to be a "dazzling urbanite" not to know what beavers do to streams, rivers, and lakes.

Improve the hell out of them and surrounding wetlands. Provide natural reservoirs and fish habitat. Prevent runoff, erosion, and flooding.
