How are religious nuts going to react if/when we finally find life on other planets?

Isn't Max Planck the guy who did all the cartoon voices?

Interesting.

I'm still pressing X to doubt that a planet tidally locked to its sun can be habitable, but they make an argument strong enough that you can't rule it out.

I'd like to be wrong - M-class stars are far more common than G- or F-class, but the fact that the habitable zone is close enough that almost all planetary masses would be tidally locked is a real problem.

Even more interesting would be brown dwarfs - if you can have habitable on a tidally locked planet, you'd likely find lots of terraformable planets that don't have life on them, solving that little moral conundrum of "do we wipe out X to get another planet we can live on?"

Aside: My answer to "would humanity do that" is one of the reasons I pray humanity never leaves the solar system.

Don Cherry's tailor: Isn't Max Planck the guy who did all the cartoon voices?

No, he was the famous pirate that invented execution by drowning.

The only real problem with tidal locking is if it bakes one side of the planet and freezes the other.  If the stated temperature information was correct, and it's making an assumption of Earth like atmosphere, while the far side of the planet is pretty chilly at -95C/-135F at the coldest, but the side facing is still not all that hot at about 13C/55F at its hottest.

We will go and report back that we found Jesus living there.
NASA: He's black, has 57 husbands, and thinks Christians are loco.
He has a message for them all: "I just wanted people to be good Jews!"

Outright denial of facts.

This is the song about the Earth-mass planet
It's orbiting a nearby red dwarf
He tried to kill me with a forklift!

A nearby potentially habitable Earth-mass exoplanet ...
...[at] a distance of 31 light-years....

Who cares? They react the same to everything

A light year doesn't sound so far sometimes, but actually it's kind of an insurmountable giant gulf.  The nearest star is 4.265 of them away.  We're not terraforming anything

God works in mysterious ways, it is not our place to question his plan

The same way they did when they discovered other continents on this world: colonize, convert, kill, profit.

we're terraforming Mars.

We actually take careful steps to sterilize probes to avoid contaminating Mars and other bodies.
