That's what I'm asking you.

I saw these guys play in Las Vegas in December of 2019. I has been planning to see a comedy show at a different theater but some guy offered me his extra ticket to as I was just walking by and I figured free > something I had to pay to do.

It was definitely not my scene but it was extremely memorable. I tried to explain what I'd seen to friends later and I got a lot of "You saw what where?" kind of reactions. Pretty cool that they're legitimately famous now.

The Hu were the last act I got to see before the pandemic shut everything down. Their live show is better than their albums, and their albums rock.

I don't know. Third base!

I think these guys have done more for spreading Mongolian music, culture, and language than anybody since Genghis Khan. They just rock.

They also bust their asses.  They got stuck in Australia during quarantine and used the time to write new songs and produce a new album and I swear they are always on tour.

That was great. Thanks, submitter.

Many years ago, I saw a silent film set in the Mongolian steppes. The soundtrack was performed live by a similar chamber orchestra and a chorus of Tuvan throat singers. Great experience. I wish I could remember the name of the film. It's just on the tip of my tongue.

Storm Over Asia? I got curious & started googling and the only other thing that even came close was an old travelogue video.

I had Mongolian neighbors when I lived at the old YMCA Hotel on Turk and Hyde twenty years ago. They were an extended family of six or more in a 10 x 12 studio. Around this time of year, Lunar New Year, I heard perfect a capella harmony with at least four voices through the wall. Made my hair stand on end. They weren't practicing for a public performance, it's just what you do when you're Mongolian and it's Lunar New Year.

They had two little kids under ten years old who they'd just let wander all around the Tenderloin. They also hung out at my place drawing with my Prismacolors in sketchbooks. There's a picture of a yurt with the sun in the corner somewhere in my closet.

When the kids visited, I propped my door open and told the neighbors to keep their door open, too. They were open & fearless people. I was not. The Tenderloin was awful then and even worse now. I hope they did okay.

Their older brothers drank me under the table St. Patrick's Day 2003. I traded jewelry  with them, a silver necklace for a silver necklace. I gave my hippie crystals to the little kids, or they stole them, I can't remember which. Either way it's something worth not holding on to.

That night of drinking & barter, I learned they were serious with the Ghengis Khan love. Imagine if Thomas Jefferson farked everybody's grandmas & there's absolutely no ambivalence about how great that is.

Altogether a superior culture. Beautiful ferocious people.

I know the band and the song, nice performance.

Live acoustic?  I think they're pretty much acoustic to start with.

Thank you for sharing this. I learned a lot from your story and I'm sure many others have, too. God bless.

This. Even if you don't love them on youtube, they're farking awesome live.

At the end of the show I saw, they got the most genuine demand for an encore I've ever heard; the crowd did NOT want to let them go.

Fun crowd, by the way...metalheads, Mongolians, college kids, professorial types, bikers, punks, sportos, motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, waistoids, dweebies, dickheads--they all adore the Hu.
