10 minutes in and they're STILL doing intros.

At this point we might see some hockey in the next half hour.

Ok, the decorated Army Serviceman coming out in Jorts is about as peak Florida as the NHL could get.

Should do this exhibition in New Zealand, Kings' hobbit on skates Blake Lizotte and Bruins' troll Brad Marchand will fit in with the Lord of the Rings locale.

I do like the "Miami Vice" color scheme they went with for this All-Star weekend.

1 shot.  1 goal.

Central up 1-0

Wow... I spied a Tomas Kopecky jersey there in the outro shot before the commercial.

An offsides challenge on a goal?  In the All-Star game?

and they didn't even do all the intros! from my memory they usually brought all four divisions out before the anthems, but not this year.

Even though I no longer enjoy baseball, it does have a far better All-Star Game in the American Big Four sports. Competitive. Basketball, eh. Too much spectacle. Hockey often phones it in and football is even worse.

The NHL used to have at least a decent events show but I got turned off after Trevor Zegras got robbed last year. Twitter and Facebook comments Friday night were "it's a shiatshow." Haven't checked Fark's commentary.

/was traveling on LA freeways, then watched Bill Maher's show, napped, then some video game (Divinity: Original Sin; need to get my $25 spent on it way back out of my system as I work on my Steam library list of unplayed/unfinished over the last decade).

The Sportsnet guys were suggesting there were 2 successful challenges last year.

They'll do the other intros (for the 2 East divisions) before their game.  They'll probably do anthems again, as well.

Pacific staging a comeback, from 3 down to 1 down.

Polish Hussar: Pacific staging a comeback, from 3 down to 1 down.

But they felt bad and let the little kid score.  Back to "down by 2"

This is the real downside to this all-star format: 25% of the fan-base has little or no incentive to watch the rest because their representative is done for the day.

While the Atlantic should win this (based on talent), I can't bring myself to root for any teams with a Tkachuk on it... more or less multiple.

they never played together? not even at any point in high school?

They didn't go to high school.  Both played in the QMJ leagues.

If you're watching an All-Star Game with a fervent rooting interest, you're a weird person. Like, the point of an ASG is to watch the best players do dope shiat and have fun out there.
The only reason to be emotionally invested in which team wins is if you are financially invested in which team wins (in which case, you are probably an addict).

But even then, the best player (McDavid) has been eliminated. So we get less.
I'd like to see the west coast players.  Living on the east coast, I don't get to see them much.  Especially since the games are no longer on OTA channels.

It's a damn shame that in 7 years of this (that is, 21 matches), we've never seen a goalie goal or even to my knowledge a decent shot at one, and we've never had a match go to a shootout.

Except the best players aren't doing dope sh*t, they're out there playing absolutely half-assed 3 on 3 hockey like some late-night beer league, running up the score 80s style.

It's lame.

Horvat signed an 8 year deal with the Isles today. I'm pretty sure that locks in the conditional pick part of the trade for the Nucks, so they have that going for them. Which is nice.

NYI has to make playoffs or finish above the 12th pick IIRC.
So goes the hopes of Lou flipping him and/or an Islander retool or rebuild for the moment.

Didn't know there was a conditional based on whether or not he resigned with the Isles.

Apparently not, I was sure I remember reading there was, it must have been some sprotswriter speculating.

Have you been reading Al Strchan's column again?
