Aren't school boards elected?

2023-02-04 3:28:09 PM
Electing school principals is the stupidest idea I have heard in years.
There is currently a shortage of teachers and principals.

2023-02-04 5:43:59 PM
School board elections are bad enough, now that the too-lazy/stupid-to-homeschool and too-poor/cheap-for-private-school religious conservative demos have merged and are fighting to dumb down schools. Plus those idiots are getting funded by Betsy Devos and other rich shiat-stirrers.

But electing principals? Gah no!
Parents will immediately game the system. Hell, smart kids will game the system, over punishments or just for laffs.

Principals will have less authority than McCarthy the dickless Speaker.

Pricipal . Caught sayof school that has stoped Handstandsing " See, told ya so" Is He dead or not. CNN Says yes. St. Pete Times Looking for chads -OR- "hello, I am write single to salute and wait for answer again"

The majority of people are f*cking stupid. The majority of parents are f*cking stupid.

So, no and f*ck off.

Trump also has a shortage of principles

As often as I had to meet with school admins for my kids, I would love to have had the power to vote them out.  Because I'm spiteful that way.  It would have been fun, watching them squirm like they made my kids.

But, most people won't own up to their own pettiness.

2023-02-04 9:25:14 PM
Good god, no. The American people have revealed themselves to be so hatefully stupid lately that I wouldn't put them in charge of anything.

In the topic of education, a hostile country would detonate an EMP over an area with lots of colleges.  Probably Boston.

Fark it, let's elect all government employees.  Park rangers?  Elected.  Cops?  Elected.  Garbage truck drivers?  Elected.  Museum curators?  Elected.  Janitors?  Elected.  Air traffic controllers?  Elected.  Army riflemen?  Elected.

The ballot each November will be larger than the Grainger catalog.

2023-02-04 9:27:38 PM
Also, shame on subby for not using a "pricipal caught sayof" headline

2023-02-04 9:27:39 PM
Why not start electing janitors, secretaries, engineers and IT guys while you're at it.

This all makes sense when you realize that Trump has toddler brain and thus absolutely no idea how many elections that would mean.

We gave them more say. Common Core is literally what the plebes want. They hate it.

No politician is incentivized to listen to their constituents, because constituents hate the stuff they want.

I'm not even sure school boards should be elected, at this point.

conservatives are just becoming too painful to even listen too.

Bill Maher last night had Bret Stephens who said the following about how we should have handled schools and covid:

"couldn't we have had a system where teachers who had comorbidities or who felt an additional risk could be taken care of whereas healthy yes 35 year old teachers could go to their classrooms and make sure that we didn't lose an entire generation"

yes, why couldn't we have a system where every teacher is under 35 years old and yet have enough teachers waiting in reserves to replace those that are over 35 at a moments notice.

just idiocy and what does "taken care of" even mean? paid not to work or put on an ice floe?

We should start making argumentative "concerned" parents prove that they can pass the current GED test before allowing them to have any say in how anyone else's children are educated.

You must enjoy parks falling into decay, cops shooting (more) random unarmed civilians, your garbage getting dumped all over the street, museums being looted...

hotrod2001: You vote for both Superintendent and school board members. I would think a man of the common clay would know this.

I grew up in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. While we elected school board members, the Superintendent was hired by the school board without substantive input from the general public.

Which was stupid as hell because the last guy they picked sat there and actually complained that the SUV he was chauffeured around in wasn't new enough and his district-paid phone just wasn't good enough. Screw you--you're paid enough you can buy stuff yourself.

Principals are professional people managers.  The curriculum is controlled by federal, state, and subject matter expert guidance and accepted by local school boards or the investors and CEO of the charter schools.
So is Trump implying that for profit charter schools can be run by locally elected people of the district in which they serve?

So certainly a transgendered black liberal Muslim can be elected as principal of an evangelical Christian religious school if they receive taxpayer money then, right?  I mean that was my takeaway from #45's commitment to democracy.

Give or take about one hundred thousand, or several hundred thousand, depending on whether they want to elect vice principals too.

2023-02-04 11:07:22 PM
Yeah no it is already hard enough to get rid of a shiatty principal when they fark up. If they are elected it will be ten times harder and you have to listen to people say "Hurr durr vote em out in X years." Because any impeachment process will probably be long and drawn out .

Yup. I used to work in Financial Aid, too. I got so many parents calling, saying "You need to tell me my kid's grades because I'm paying their tuition." Well, no I don't, and indeed I legally can't. So piss off. 💁‍♂

Qualifications to be a teacher 4+ years of higher education, mentorship, ongoing education, and certification( whatever that's worth)

Qualifications to be a parent: insert peg A into slot B.

And somehow subject matter knowledge has become a negative.

Good god. Parents should have less say, not more.
