I am not well-versed in the marijuana arts.  Wouldn't having a large bong be kind of problematic if you're intending to actually use it (since he is quoted as saying "it's functional" but not elaborating)?  Like, gases come in, bubble up through the water, and then the smoke is in the chamber awaiting a user to inhale it.  So...if you have a huge air chamber, isn't it going to require a ton of (extra) marijuana to actually fill it up with smoke? Alternatively, if you use a normal amount of weed, isn't your smoke going to be really spread out and low-density, so if you inhale off that huge bong you're getting mostly air and not weed smoke?

It seems like there must be a maximum effective bong size?

Is the steel wool still there when you clean it? Steelwool is an excellent fire starter.

Made from ABS, which is heat resistant to 212F.
Takes about 225 - 230F to properly decarboxylate THCa for bioavailability.

ABS gives off hydrogen cyanide and carbon monoxide when burned, and transitions at 221F
Ya spins tha wheel, ya takes ya chances.

I'll stick with my dry herb vape, where I can control the temperature down to the degree, and I know the ceramic and glass innards aren't gassing off anything that's gonna kill me.

I'm less about the desktop and more about the portable vape.  Not much better than finishing up 70 - 80 miles of bikepacking with setting up camp, getting dinner prepped, then bringing out the mini-vape.  Used to be that I'd bring my dugout/one-hitter, but temperature control on the IQC vape is so much easier on the lungs.  Wish I'd made the switch a few years ago.

Steel wool is full of machine oil.  Prolly not good for your lungs.

I switched to a vaporizer about 15 years ago and never looked back.  I still have a small pipe as a backup, and if someone passes me a joint I'll hit it, but I've used a vaporizer pretty much exclusively still then.  Still have my original desktop vaporizer too.  I've had to replace most of the glass parts at one point or another, and had to replace the heating element about 4 years back, but it still gets the job done.

I recently got a Dr. Dabber Switch. It is phenomenal for concentrates but the vapor isn't quite thick enough for flower.

I recently bought a crafty+. The only drawback is very short battery life (4 maybe 5 bowls). Otherwise, it delivers a great vapor. I mention it because it can fit optional metal pre-packed pods so you can pack the sealable little pod, then just stick it in the bowl and heat it up without having to pack in the wild.

The maximum practical bong volume is no greater than the capacity of your lungs.

If you can't burn a hit and the clear the chamber in one lungful your bong is too large.

/so the more you smoke, the smaller the bong you need
